    Google translate it helpful to a point. But I'd check with a person fluent in the language, like I would check with my Japanese speaking friends.

    I play with it, mainly using it like a dictionary for single words for phrases. And sometimes you can't even be sure what you cut and paste into it is the complete sentence is it just fragment. And google translate is just going to give back mess especially for Japanese if you lost the verbs at the end, and sometimes the carriage return and line breaks inadveratently break up the sentence when it is not supposed to.

    I think it depends on the language. As an Italian speaker, I've found it pretty accurate in translations with a few exceptions. Sometimes, as in all language, certain word combinations don't quite translate directly into English. I can't speak for Japanese, but I've found in some of the other languages I speak, the less similar the sentence structure is to English, the more likely to see crazy things.

    I've always assumed that google butchers every language as far as grammar goes, but I think you can generally get your point across.

    I had used it twice in XI - both times it was with a party member who was absolutely HORRIBLE, and I was wanting to try to help them out because the party was getting rather pissed off. The first was a French player, and that seemed to go OK. The second was a Chinese player, and when I tried to explain to them I didn't the language natively and was using a translator, they didn't believe me. O.o I still don't believe it could have translated that well, but I'll never know since I only speak English :P

    I do use Google translate when running dungeons with JP players, mostly to translate what they say and perhaps a few of my own like "Its okay!" or "Let's go!"
    But when the sentences that I translate from English to Japanese are really long, I will add in "This is translated using Google Translate". Praying hard that I didn't make myself sound like a complete fool to them.

    In 1.0 when there was a lot of JP players on the server I was on, I'd run most stuff through google translate then reverse it to see how it came out in English. I'd make the original statement more clear until I was satisfied with the reversed-english results. Probably not necessary but I never had any communication issues come out of it and it was kind of like a puzzle.

    I play on a JP server and have many JP friends I can communicate decently with Google translate and cleared lots of content with them. My limited JP knowledge is through anime and also a copy-paste Google doc of common phrases I need too.

    You should know all the proper words for the jobs, how loot is divided, and stating your experience (clear experience, practice, speed run, how many times (laps)), roles, positions (1-12 o'clock) etc...

    I also commonly say yoroshiku, and state that I am a foreigner and if that's ok (daijobudesu?) usually they follow with "clear experience?" etc and what item you want "kibo" - after that it's usually ok or they boot you, but most of the time I'm geared properly and they give me a chance.

    We have this person on our world. He seems to have upgraded to a coliseum shawl from the simple highlander rope band that he always wore before.

    Maybe it's just a Japanese guy thing, but there are a number of people on our server who would probably do Reinhart proud (i.e. subligar fans)... I cringe every time I see them. ><;

    its close, they want to fight naked above the waist (probably wants /display body off)

    I split up the sentence and but them separately in google translate. Having some knowledge of particles and how to break it up helps.
    In this case theres AでB (do B by way of A - fight by way of being naked or just fight naked) and Aしたい (want to do A - want to fight naked). Of course you would still need to be able to recognise that the character is not a part of another word...so I guess it doesn't help.
