A new chat for chatting...

I mentioned this earlier in a thread, but wanted to make it a little more visible in hopes of maybe getting some more attention.

In order to make ffxiv a more active community (as in using chat and talking to each other outside FCs) I would like to address an issue that I believe turn the silence to chatter.

What ffxiv needs is a /general or a /all chat. With this I mean a chat where people can talk casually and across regions, so that even if you're in New Gridania you can still catch what the players in Ul'dah are saying. Yes, we have /shout and /yell, but tbh i think many people (me included) don't use this chat because it's not suited for small talk. Also you miss out as soon as you switch regions.

As things are now it's a bit too quiet in the chats, and i would like to have something more than just an active FC chat. This would also make it a lot easier for people to build newfound friendships and farming groups ^^

We don't have that problem in Lich ;p And people who wanna talk don't dare to use the /shout or /yell because it's not "fitting" :/

Most people don't seem to care on Jenova. I've seen some very strange conversations afoot.

On paper the idea sounds great, but in practice it would be spammed by parties looking for members, advertisements/requests for crafting services, free company recruitment shouts, and RMT spam. It would also become a breeding ground for trolls because there's nothing they love more than an audience and this chat channel would provide the largest possible.

I'm afraid if something like this were added, most of us would probably adjust our settings so that we didn't see it

Yea, i guess implementing a recruitment channel or something like that wouldnt make a difference either cause they would sill be using the general... But it worked very well in WoW, so i was kind of hoping it could work in ffxiv.

I wouldn't have a problem with something like that, as long as they created an entire log separately for it.
Basically making a "World" log next to where you have the choices for General log, Battle log, and Event log.

In the "World log" you could see Shouts in Mor Dhona from your housing district, for example. It would be pretty convenient.

A separate log would be absolutely necessary for this feature though, rather than sticking it in General; even if they gave the option to turn it off.

This. Not sure if OP realises why this is a terrible idea. It simply wouldn't work. Apart from the spamming for gil, FC recruitment, PF recruitment etc. If everyone, across every region on the same server could access this chat log, and not all of them would but a lot of them would, do you have any idea how useless it would be? With so many active people, even a small percentage of the servers' population, the chat log would move so rapidly that a conversation couldn't be held. By breaking the chat into several channels, which you can filter into the available tabs, it gives you a steady paced chat log to suit you. We are provided with an FC chatlog and 8 LS chat logs, that's a lot of people. On top of that, LS communities are usually people with more common interests, be it RPing, Odin, Coil specific LSs so you can then filter the type of chat you want based on those LSs into different tabs and not be bombarded with people shouting utter nonsense that I no doubt assume happens in Mor Dhona on every server.
