My opinion on why raiding has declined with the majority of players, is not difficulty per se. I put it on statics, and people having trouble making a schedule, (my huge problem because I am 12 hours opposite my friends prime time.) The other problem is the raiding mentality the past I would say 4-5 years. I noticed it in WoW, a little in FFXI, and currently in CT and dungeon runs on FFXIV. Its the horrible attitudes and the expectation of inexperienced players to play and know all mechanics at the same as someone who has run the raid 50 times.

I see it on WoW and FFXIV "OMFG DEWD YOUR DEEPS SUCKS GET OUT OF HERE YOU ARE HOLDING US BACK!!!" or "OMFG MAN GET OUT OF SUCH AND SUCH!!!! YOU SUCK LERN 2 PLAI!!!!" It is not all players obviously but beginners not fully confident in their ability to try the tough content but want to do it and try, are not given any learning curve buffer, they are just jumped on by people, and some people just can't deal with it. So they experience this event and lose motivation to ever try the content again, or do not even try to begin with because of the stories being told or seen.

I felt this way when I came back after 3-4 months off due to busy school schedule as a scholar, and wanted to try the new gear... but refused to do them until I could run with friends to re familiarize my self with the Job and learn the tricky mechanics, (in particular I was on then on HM Titan). I didn't want to be blamed for a wipe even though it was my first time doing HM even if I was confident on my healing abilities. You just never know when you are going to get a group that is impatient and jerks and ruining the game experience for others for their own epeen's self esteem.
