    question about DoT

how is DoT affected by buffs?

for example, if i pop 20% dmg increase, then use a DoT, will that DoT do 20% more damage, or will the ticks during the dmg increase duration do 20% more damage.

or, if i DoT, then do a dmg increase, will that affect it?

    same question for crit increase
basically for the crit, should i ALWAYS have Straight Shot up first before Venom/windbite?

I'm about 90% sure this is how DoT damage calculate in this game
All DoT in this game calculate it base damage when it first apply. so as long as you apply DoT while your buff is active then your DoT will do Damage + Buff for its whole duration.

Use it on a Striking Dummy to see.

What I DO know is, if you apply a Dot, THEN use a damage buff, it will not increase the tick. The damage buff need to be applied BEFORE the DoT.

All buffs used before applied DOTs

DOTs will gain buffs effect, Raging Strike, Internal Release, Straight Shot, Blood for Blood etc.

So make sure you use it before you put any DOTs if you can

Same answer as the others, just wanted to kinda clarify. The potency of any DoT is snapshotted at the time the cast completes. Any buffs that you have up at that time that affect the DoT will apply for the entire duration of the DoT, even if the buff falls off of you. Conversely, any buffs applied to you after the DoT is applied that would affect the DoT had you used them before the cast, will have no effect on the DoT. So buff up beforehand and let 'er rip!

When you place a dot, it takes a capture of your strength + buffs. If you place a dot then buff yourself, the dot won't gain the buff. You have to buff before placing the dot.

Correct. This is called a snapshot. When you cast any spell, the game takes a snapshot of both your stats and the targets stats, and applies those stats to your spell.

    So, here are two examples:

    1) You have a 20% damage bonus. You cast your DoT. Even when your bonus wears off, the DoT will continue to have a 20% damage bonus until it wears off.
    2) Your enemy has 75% damage reduction. You cast your DoT. Even when their damage reduction wears off, the DoT will continue to deal 75% less damage until it wears off.

This is why it's important to not clip (recast before the final tick of damage) your DoTs.

Would you believe me if I told you that some people get upset if I let the buffed DoT wear before reapplying it? Like, really, you guys paying THAT much attention? Of course, it's the players using dps checker programs, and they say my dps is too low (180 dps, whatever that is).

Regardless of that, maybe the experts only go by what the programs say rather than knowing WHY I only refresh non-buffed DoTs between one to three ticks remaining while also Dotting everything in the group.

    Side note:
There was an argument that cause the party to disband. Two guys were showing two different numbers. One guy saying numbers reset during each phase change, one guy saying it only tracks the initial hit of a DoT. And they wonder why many dps do their own thing lol...

I know parser keep data quite a lot but I wonder if they analyze into that detail by checking parser
