i've played this game for about 9 hours and was rofl'ing all day to the ease of it. step 1; learn a cure spell. step 2; apply said cure spell to a melee class. step 3; destroy everything?

i'm glad they seem to be keeping to their promise of fostering skillful play, not lolmashthisbutton play.

p.s seems like even us hardcore still have a place in the world. but i might be speaking too soon.

MP has regenerated by itself for some time now. The old MP costs were put in place when you could only recover MP through Aetheryte. And let's be honest, consistent damage was not a threat, only damage spikes were. This aspect of the game needed to be changed drastically and that's what they've done. Now mob DPS actually means something, and that means party DPS means something. We're going to have to kill stuff before the mages run out of MP.

This should also give a great deal more practicality to many of the existing items in the game, like ethers, drinks and food, especially when they get revamped/adjusted. Hopefully you can't just wing it half-arsed anymore.

I both like the idea and feel a little fearful. In a party, I think this is great. It will make players think and strategize, as most people have pointed out. Maybe people will even learn to stop wearing R45 gear at R25, particularly when they're tanking! <gasp!> On my server, I almost every single person I meet wears gear that's 10 to 20 levels above their rank, even in the elite LSs I've seen...

As someone who mostly solos, though, this will definitely be harder. I'm hoping it will be a good challenge and not a massive headache. Up until now, playing Marauder has been the hardest because my MP was already really low, and hard-hitting leve mobs usually left me without MP and resting after combat. Now I'm worried that I'll run out of MP mid-fight or sooner... even with Bloodbath and all of that. We'll see, though. Also, as someone pointed out, casual players often get stuck choosing between playing solo and playing with pick-me-up parties that often include slow learners (or non-learners). It was different in FFXI -- I used to take noobs under the wing and teach them how to play in a friendly and helpful manner. In this game, the crowd that's being drawn in doesn't seem to care as much. Most of the ones I've met just want to go in and bash on things or spam spells, even if it means death after death. (They simply don't learn. Hence, they don't get invites to the elite LSs and get left for the rest of us casual players to deal with.) Oh well... I'm not trying to rant--I spend most of my time soloing anyway. I'm just eager to see how this will affect solo life.

    Right.
Now take a look at who was called "incompetent" all the time since this thread started?
Healers. For no other reason than complaining about having to deal with incompetent other players and therefore running our of MP.

    Don't get me wrong.
I also thought CON was too easy, you could even solo a lot of stuff with elemental spells + selfheal.
I'm even in favor of a rise in MP costs. But this is just too much!
They could have gone from 20 to 50 or 60, not to 120.

Nerfing Mage classes? Fine by me.
But as with any other content, you have to do it considerably, carefully, not EXTREME just because you feel mages are a bit too strong.

The mp cost, isn't so ridiculous when you hit higher levels and have over a 1000 mp, but for low level people this mp cost sounds harsh, cure I in XI was 8 mp I believe, not more than 12 for sure. And I still had astral rings and what not to boost mp, some rse gear here and there, but in this game lower levels all you have is the points you can put into "yourself" and some gear that will give you like 20 mp. I'll rest at higher levels at get mp back I don't care, I played xi, I can wait till the battle dies down and put wep away and watch out for people and such. But for low level people you don't have the mp or the time to wait on a healer or your dd (thm) to put their wep away and rest up in a fight. Between fights maybe, but then you're making our rewards based on time, so not too much time should be spent on this. In XI this was fine, I just wonder how it will play out in this game, and if they are over harshly gimping newer people, I may have phys level 50, and I may have multiple classes ranked up in preparation for the removal of phys, but if you were new and on ps3 release, you are effed it sound till you level up past that ungodly time period. if anything it is kinda more like xi.

yeah, cause waiting for mp to regen instead of playing the game = fun and challenge.

I think they messed up big time on changes to the mage classes, especially making thm essentially useless

A good way to go about this would have been percentage-MP costs.
Like..one big heal is 15% of your MP. Still nerfing mages because MP costs are higher, but at least it's fair to any rank.
150 MP may be just 10-12% of your MP when you are Rank 50, but it's 100% when you start out as a healer.

    Great experience for future conjurers:
"Oh, you want to be a conjurer? Just equip a wooden staff. You have 102 MP now. One heal costs you 70-130 MP.
You think that's bad and you feel useless? Well, people on Rank 50 are fine with it. How you get to Rank 50 with no or at most one heal? I don't know, but..have fun as a conjurer!"

I hope the dev team soon realizes how much they hurt themselves with that move.
Great job scaring newbies away if this stays until PS3 release

Correction: they could solo heal 7 melees. That won't be happening any more. (For better or for worse) =P
