Squall's gunblade in FFVIII doesn't anyway - seeing as mechanically wise it was pure nonsense (it was little more than a sword with a Dualshock controller attached, literally, in that it didn't fire bullets like a gun when the trigger is pulled, but simply causes a tremor in the blade to deal extra damage, or something equally stupid). At least later FF games with gunblades made them far more believable and an actual fully functional fusion of gun and sword, including the Garlean gunblades in FFXIV.

And for the record Lightning's Gunblade the Blazefire Saber is already in the game and equippable by players - it's a level 13 GLA and PLD weapon. The gun portion is not functional though, making it just a fancy sword with a fold out blade. It's still cool nonetheless.

Scythes..

Scythes are actually already in the game - but they're not weapons, they're BTN tools for harvesting, which is what scythes are in real life. They're farming implements.

Like scythes hammers too are already in the game - they're tools used by BSM in synthesis.

I would love a martial artist that uses Bô as weapon. Like Killik in SoulCalibur (or Chanter in Aion).
It could be the second job of Pugilist, maybe a close combat buffer, or an off tank job.
