Just quick fyi if anyone is having issues downloading the patch. I didn't read through all the forums but just to break it down here's a quick easy step by step guide to download it using utorrent (much much quicker...took 8 minutes for me compared to a 4 hour wait using the client). Here's a quick step by step guide:

1. If you don't have it yet, download utorrent....quick easy small download....go to utorrent.com

2. Navigate (on windows 7) to document > my games > final fantasy xiv > downloads > ffxiv > 48eca647 (thats what it says for me but just go by the date of the patch) > metainfo > then click the utorrent file with the nearest date....should be titled D2011.07.20.000.

3. Download it in utorrent, I didnt even open ffxiv at all. When its done go to your location that utorrent downloaded it in. Mine is in downloads....go to ffxiv > 48eca647 > patch > patchname and copy it to (on windows 7) to document > my games > final fantasy xiv > downloads > ffxiv > 48eca647 > patch.

4. Paste it in there if there is any files in there just overwrite it.

5. Open up ffxiv and it will quickly check over the file and will be at 100% then will proceed to the install.

When I tried using the ffxiv downloader I was downloading at 50 kb/sec for a 550ish mb file...and it was stopping randomly...would of taken ages. On Utorrent I downloaded at 2.2 mb/sec and was done literally between 5-10 minutes (download speeds on utorrent will vary by your internet connection of course but it will still be faster).
