ps3/ controller players how well do you do?

In pvp?

I tend to be getting better dishing out dps as a mnk, but I cant lie though, I find pvping on a controller to be tough.a lot of times when I am switching between hotbars, it usually get stuck or shuffle onto the next bar.Iguess this happen because I'm trying to quickly hit buffs or cds.


What advice do you guys have on this?

Enable access to a second hotbar by holding two back triggers at the same time... you shouldn't be switching hotbars any other way

I've been messing around with my controller on pc, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. I just can't see how anyone playing with a pad is not at a severe disadvantage.

I do just fine on PS3. Win most of my matches. I only play SCH in 40s, though. I could see how DPS/Tanks could have issues target-swapping, but that's it. Any other "disadvantage" is just imagined.

Because you've just been "messing around." It's new to you. Some people have been playing with a controller since day one.

yea I have that trouble alot.. sometimes i get a delay on certain skills also

I've been on controller since 2.0 dropped. On ps4 now. It took some getting used too though. In PvP I main whm. But when I'm DPS I find that using the R2/L2 + R1/L1 targeting to be much easier then spamming X and hoping that I target what I want. As for the hotbars I try to keep everything essential on the first hotbar and of I need to stitch I always hold down R1 and push triangle or circle to get to the one that I need to. It's something that will take some time to practice but it defiantly helps out

70%+ win rate on comp with controller on melee. I imagine that will go down over time as I just dabble. I have duplicate skills in some places on all hb sets (handycap access purposes) and utilize the tab targeting function as opposed to the d-pad.

I'm not having too much of an issue and I main Dragoon, though I've been using controller since closed beta back over the summer. Find it kinda easy to target swap via the directional pad, but that's my preference.

I use a PS2 controller on a PC, so I'm not sure if the options are the same, but this is what I came up with and it helped a metric ton.
I play a DRG and have to do a lot of chasing. I apologize if this is too skewed towards that job/class

I changed my cross hotbar to toggle instead of hold in the character creation config.(pic below)
I noticed holding down L2 or R2 lead to issues and cramping, this switches between the two in one click. and allows for targeting with L1 and R1. which is really great.

Buttons I need access to while chasing another player I keep on the right set of buttons of the gamepad (attack w/ cooldowns, ranged, attack etc)
Buttons while I'm standing still(aka stunned, slept, bound), I keep on the left, actions like purify, second wind, defensive cooldowns.
This makes it easier to run and attack, which you are always doing as a DRG.

This gives me access to 8 offensive spots on the right of the gamepad between toggling R2 and L2 and still the ability to run after your healer or ranged DPS
Which is not a lot, but with some creative macroing there are more options

Creative Macros - I wrote some macros that will do different actions depending on the players distance, they almost act as an "If, Else " statement in programming. quick example...

/ac "Shortranged Attack" <"t">
/ac "Ranged Attack" <"t">

This will try the first action, if the player is too far, uses ranged attack.

As DPS, once I get a player to a certain HP I know I can burn them down with a burst of buffs/cooldowns,
so I macro something like this to get the functionality all in one button.

This you don't want to mash or sometimes they wont fire in order. The "/macroicon" you set will show the timer of that skill on the icon

I play as a DRG and it is definitely a huge disadvantage playing w/ controller lol. I use 2 hot bars, and keep my main combo as the same buttons on both hotbars so I can always be chaining that but switch back and forth between hotbars. I'm like 600 matches in and im still re-arranging to get the most out of it. I also find myself reaching across the controller with opposite hands to hit some quick buffs. Needless to say if i wasnt playing from my couch I would have plugged in a keyboard / mouse. Targeting is the worst part IMO.
