I didn't when I got GLA to 30 for PLD. I had to get CNJ to 15 and do that class quest before I ever got a quest icon.

You'll still have the mark, but it'll be the red locked quest icon and when you interact with the NPC, it told you you didn't have the subclass

Probably the same people that haven't done any class quests and don't have any of the extra class skills.
I could definitely see how that could happen if you never went back to the Guild.

As a first time player, I would highly recomend for anyone new not to tank. Also, make sure you don't do the same combo too many times as the far "Superior" players will make sure to mock you even though you're doing your job. Sure you run into some good groups, but the majority will be ugly as is life with any mmorpg. Sure it is easy to antidote yourself, but let's face it, focussing on the fight is where you'll be at.

At this point I'd say "It's not really your fault" but I went into my first story-mode Brayflox knowing about the poison... and I went in with a stash of HQ Antidote, because I knew I might end up with a SCH, or a WHM/CNJ who didn't Esuna.

As Tanks... Semper paratus, man. Semper paratus...

I'll know to take some Hi Antidote for Brayflox, I won't be there for a while

In my case I don't have many combo's yet I take a fair bit of repetitive combo abuse. I don't know anyone that owns this game so every dungeon is randoms. That's all fine and I'm enjoying it. It's just a pity that there's so many who expect better when the option isn't available.

Focusing on the combo is pretty much all there is to do for a while there. It's the major complaint here about being a Paladin.

"All I do is stand there, stare at Titan's crotch and spam Rage of Halone...."

But... you also gotta position the enemy. Brayflox's story mode is where you come in to your own there, keeping the enemy positioned so it doesn't self-heal and doesn't toast your party members.

1-2-3... hit Flash every 20 seconds or so to keep the Blind debuff up... watch for and *anticipate* stunnable attacks so you can interrupt with shield bash... turn another page in the "Paladin's Weekly" fashion magazine... pop Rampart again... still alive? Good...

Comes with the Job Description. Much like the Director of a Film. Even if the Actors were terrible and the film was underbudget, the Director is always to blame.
