I am wondering if we'll get to see a more accessible world to visit in FFXIV compared to the portion we had in FFXI. While we may get lore of the other areas on occasion, I would actually like to see them for myself too.

Actually, there are two other regions that are known, both of which are only mentioned in the lore through NPC dialogue or item descriptions. There is Meracydia to the south, across the Sea of Ash, which is apparently a very tribal region, with heavy voodoo influences, as well as Thavnair to the east, across the Sea of Jade, which is ruled by a collection of "ruling houses" of nobility in its capital of Radz-at-Han.
The only portion of XI we've yet to explore was the Northern Orcish/Gigas empire, the Southern Mithran Homeland, the Western Land and the Far East where Phoenix originally resided, otherwise we have a pretty huge world in XI that spans time and space storywise -- So everything from 2002 - 2010 in XI was eventually opened up that was once lore, e.g the only account of the Crystal War was in the opening cg video and a book released only in Japan, then we get to experience it for ourselves and even events not told in the lore.
So if they didn't completely distract from storytelling of XI as well, we'll no doubt see more areas that's in the lore over time.
...Goddammit. They'd better not pull another FFXI on us. I actually want to see these places one day.Actually, there are two other regions that are known, both of which are only mentioned in the lore through NPC dialogue or item descriptions. You hear me Yoshi-P!? This is my one wish. Just ONE.
I agree! Haha.
And I swear that Tanaka mentioned another nameless region to the northwest (maybe?) in an interview from a long time ago, but take that with a grain of salt...I could very well be making things up. I'll try and find the source for it when I have the time.![]()
Hydaelyn is such a bad name. Sometimes JP's try too hard.
Eorzea is better, Aldenard/mard is actually great, as well as the other continents.
Roegadyn is also cringe-worthy. The rest is all good.
They're Celtic-influenced. Celtic likes to liberally use the "sometimes Y" clause of the Law of Vowels.
Ah. I've always found Celtic odd, probably why I don't like it. It doesn't sound good on my tongue. "I" would be more natural.
Reminds me of that one hound-type mob with celtic name.. Cwn Annwn. That's Welsh though.
I do hope it is influenced by something, JP's are notorious of just putting together syllables that sound cool and "English" (same thing).
and no, I'm not an apologist for them Jennestia, sorry about that.
Thanks for the replies guys, you've cleared some things up for me, it was the islands that confused me really because on Earth islands are still part of continents so I don't see the need to give an extra name for that. But this is not Earth so I guess I can accept that lol.
Thanks again, you've made my first experience in the community a very positive one. Kudos to all!
