Land, Continent and World... what?

Ok I've been wondering this for a long time now and cannot figure it out so I thought I'd take it to the forums!

The Continent is called Aldemard.
The Land is called Eorzea.
The World is called Hydaelen.

What the heck is the difference between the Land and the Continent. Surely they are the same thing?

Is anyone else confused by this?
Is anyone able to shed some light on this epic riddle!?

Think of "land" as a country instead. Hopefully that clears up your confusion.

Eorzea, the region, is consisted of Aldenard (the Africa-like landmass ) + its surrounding island, including Vylbrand. Hydaelyn is the planet.

The world of Hydaelyn contains a Region known as Eorzea, which is made up of the island of Vylbrand where Limsa Lominsa and O'Ghomoro are located, and the landmass of Aldenard where Ul'dah, Gridania, Ishgard, Sharlayan, and Ala Mhigo are located.

The other known land within Hydaelyn is all the land that stretches eastward, which as far as we know is all under the rule of the Garlean Empire which is based in a city called Garlemaid, whose current location is unknown.

Actually, there are two other regions that are known, both of which are only mentioned in the lore through NPC dialogue or item descriptions. There is Meracydia to the south, across the Sea of Ash, which is apparently a very tribal region, with heavy voodoo influences, as well as Thavnair to the east, across the Sea of Jade, which is ruled by a collection of "ruling houses" of nobility in its capital of Radz-at-Han.

I agree! Haha.

And I swear that Tanaka mentioned another nameless region to the northwest (maybe?) in an interview from a long time ago, but take that with a grain of salt...I could very well be making things up. I'll try and find the source for it when I have the time.
