I was not suggesting that the Japanese constitution was morally correct on marriage. I was simply countering the early poster's statement that:

Looking at actual poll numbers shows that, given the margin of error, the US and Japan are practically the same with regards to public opinion on LGBT rights. Sure there are plenty of countries where LGBT rights have more public support. But there are also countries where support is much less. And not just Muslim-majority countries. Russia, China, South Korea, and (surprisingly to me) Greece have much less public support for gay rights.

And for the record, I am all for gay marriage in-game and irl. Hell, I think people should be able to become legally joined as platonic life-partners if they're so inclined.
