SE, this is a serious request and I ask for you to close this down immediately when someone goes OT since we have enough of those.

Request: please do not allow a marriage system in FFXIV at all!

Reason: too much emotion and political stuff. With the last live letter, the threads also gone really live in a very negative matter.

If people want to rant about same-sex marriage, NOT in this thread! There is like 6 out there started his morning. This is for all the people like I, who wish to play the game and have SE focus on new jobs for example rather than dealing with this topic.

So you want a group to scrap a project that they've worked hard on just because of whiney Americans? (I''m an American too) Get real. People were paid for the work they did and people paid to get it done. Just let them do what they're doing and respect it/don't participate.

Either way, I can't wait to look like a sir in my wedding tux.

I suspect only Americans try to make this an issue. The main japanese community couldn't care less. So it's not a problem for SE. They just point and laugh.

To be completely honest, the whole "if I can't have it, no one can" attitude is something people were supposed to grow out of in kindergarten.

People should also grow out of the "if I don't understand or like it then it's wrong" - but that's largely the reasoning used when arguing against same-sex couples.

I agree with the OP. It's a hot topic and it's not worth it. Shelve the idea for about 5 years and try again, but don't build discrimination into the game.

As for Japan's Constitution... just because something is written in a Constitution does mean it's fair or just. One simply has to look to the US Constitution's 13th, 18th, 19th, & 21st Amendments.

I was not suggesting that the Japanese constitution was morally correct on marriage. I was simply countering the early poster's statement that:

Looking at actual poll numbers shows that, given the margin of error, the US and Japan are practically the same with regards to public opinion on LGBT rights. Sure there are plenty of countries where LGBT rights have more public support. But there are also countries where support is much less. And not just Muslim-majority countries. Russia, China, South Korea, and (surprisingly to me) Greece have much less public support for gay rights.

And for the record, I am all for gay marriage in-game and irl. Hell, I think people should be able to become legally joined as platonic life-partners if they're so inclined.

After removing a particularly off topic discussion from the thread, I will be locking this thread. The appeal to not include a system in the game is certainly worth discussion, and you are free to express your support of the idea using the "Like!" button. However, the thread itself has fallen quite off topic from that discussion and is focusing on real life legal hurdles and issues. The thread will be locked so that the points currently brought up, including the original appeal to not implement a system, remain available to view.
