    Marketboard and Fees

So, sometimes when purchasing an item in the market it will tell me that I'll be charged an extra fee (which I assumed was the tax). But for some items this message does not appear and the price I pay is as listed in the market.

Question: Is there an option that lets you charge the buyer an additional fee when you put the item up for sale? If not, then why do some items have it and some dont?

    Thanks!

The tax rates fluctuate, sometimes there is no tax for that city for a bit. If you go to the NPC you hire retainers from in the market areas there is a option to check the tax rates.

There is no option for the sellers to charge the buyer the tax, the buyer always pays the tax.

Retainers will list items for sale on the respective market board depending where they are located (yes they have a specified location even though you can call them any where there's a bell). This can be changed by talking to the retainer npc in each nation.

By buying from the same location as the retainer you are buying from, you do not need to pay an additional buyers tax. E.g. The retainer is listed in LL, and you look it up through uldah marketboard, you will need to pay tax.

The thing is that all marketboards are linked for convenience and shown as one.

Have never seen those listed tax rates ever change since the game was released. I assume the conditions for it to change are either very extreme or it is a remnant of something devs decided not to implement.

What OP is describing is what chococo is describing. Retainer location different from buying location = taxed.

I'm fairly certain it's a 5% tax if you're buying from a retainer that is not located in the city you currently find yourself.

They actually change quite regularly - the sale tax in specific City is being decreased by 2% (e.g. to 3%) - you can see that while listing the items in that particular area or by talking to any retainer avocate (spellling?) NPC.

On Hyperion all cities have had "Normal" rate of 5% for... ever.

In any case this is different from the buyer's tax. 5% is the fee the seller is deducted on a successful sale. As I just found out by reading the tax description again.
