Look out, swimming might lead to an entire zone being underwater.

In other words bring on the swimming. Under the seas in RPGs is the place to be.

(bonus points if Emerald Weapon shows up to crash the beach party)

Underwater battles like FFX would be so cool.

Echoing this. FFX is actually a really good reference because they used the ocean and underwater areas in that game to incredibly cool, atmospheric effect. Come to think of it, they did the same thing in Chrono Cross.

Altogether, Square has a good track record with this sort of thing.
