People need practice to get better. I agree that would require a call out or two, but what happens if people see you perform badly once and they decide they'll just blacklist you? It's no longer a fun game.i am by no means and elite player, but people being called out for not performing as well as others on dps with their character is .... discrimination? You are not helping those players by hiding the fact that they under perform, and you dont help the game as whole by doing this.
I'd much rather be blacklisted for quantified poor performance over someone blacklisting me because they think I had bad performance.
Or they could simply release the open API they've promised. I don't even remotely care if it means a parse app comes from it. If you have bad DPS/HPS/overhealing/damage taken and thin skin, it isn't my problem. Just as it isn't my problem if some guy wants to be an ass about his huge 1337 3p33n DPS. I really don't care about either camp, I just want it for my own analysis and for the MASSIVE amount of in game safe apps it'll cause, like marketboard trackers, and sound packages from old FF titles, etc.
@OP quote:
The problem with that statement is that DPS checks are already in the game, and to meet them [going into an instance at base i-level] you do have know how to play your class well.
@OP:
As for a dps tool leading to harassment and discrimination, I would agree, but anything could lead to such action from another player. Basic DPS tools are pretty pointless outside of on-the-fly DPS metering for possible fight mechanics, so I don't see a necessity for them. However a dev. supported and in-depth parsing tool is what the theorycrafting community has been asking for and is much more then a simple DPS meter.

Make the dps check for beginners a mandatory quest for your dps class/job. Get that Roegadyn in Lower La Noscea with the straw hat and subligar to train you. There was a quest where you faced him in a rock breaking contest and whoever can break theirs first wins. I think they could have expanded on this and set it so that you have to properly execute your rotations and cool downs in order to beat him as he will most likely win due to cheating (bombs and mines, etc). Make the quests appear at levels 15, 30, 50.
There is no doubt a tool like this could be useful. The question is how many people will use it for it's purpose and how many will abuse it and use it to discriminate.

People are not entitled to be carried, though.Cutting people out of the fight before they can try in this manner is discriminating. Fact of the matter is, some players need to be carried by others to clear certain content.
What's wring with using it to discriminate? Would you invite a 4.5k HP tank to Turn 5? So why is it okay to invite a 150 DPS player?
Discrimination in a PF group is fine. You play with who you want to play with. I'm not sure why people get up in arms about that fact, and why "anti-elitists" feel the need to force themselves into groups that they are not a good fit for.
Whether or not discriminating is bad or good is not up to us to decide. Perhaps something like this would cause more bad, than good, which I believe is what the developers think.
When discussing possible content I like to look at it from multiple angles to fully judge the possible outcomes. "How would this feature perform there, or there? Will it cause more good than bad for the community as a whole? Does it please the majority?" Things like that.
Also, frankly, I agree the DPS Tool would be extremely useful and would feed my curiosity. But do we NEED it to overcome the mechanics in this games battle system? I don't think so.

The whole party finder system encourages discrimination, and discrimination in this context is not a bad thing. We should freely be allowed to discriminate about who we party with - some people don't want "jerks", some people don't want bad dps, some people don't want impatient people, etc etc. If you dislike someone's standards, don't play with them.
And often you do - DPS checks are often the harshest part of this game. You could throw yourself at T8 forever only to find that someone is doing 200 DPS and as such you will never win without a miracle, for instance.
no do don't harrass people if you don't want to party them take the penalty the person you don't want to play with has done nothing wrong.The whole party finder system encourages discrimination, and discrimination in this context is not a bad thing.
