I would argue that yes, players should be able to play their way. There is a general crummy attitude permeating MMOs and some games are worse than others and FF14 is slowly becoming the worst offender.

There is a difference between, "Looking for experienced players who know the fights, please youtube" vs "Haven't watched video, we'll kick!". For example, there is quite the elitist crowd in TSW, but they at least tend to be mature and either friendly or at least have pleasant enough attitudes.

I don't think anyone wants a free ride or to be carried through. We all have goals that we want to achieve with our characters and can be tough and frustrating to be community gated. However, I think what many players would like to see is just a more friendlier attitude in general. That doesn't mean partying with anyone interested, but people respond better to polite rejection in general...., "Hey sorry, this is a speed run and we need you to know the dungeon."

Actually, many people do. It's one reason merc groups make so much.

This highlights the problem with this thread and what's almost happening to the other thread I started.

The thread was clearly about some way to get DPS feedback that wasn't a dps meter. Yet here we are 20 pages later and we are so completely off topic that everyone is just debating the merits of parsers with zero regard for the actual topic of this thread. Great job guys.

There's already discrimination in DF. . .from SE directly. Or have you not noticed the ilvl requirements in DF?

A: snipped........ I’m asked quite frequently whether we have plans to address an official feature that displays DPS measurements, but due to our current policy, we don't have any plans for this. The reason for this is that certain levels of DPS will be forced upon players. However, I understand the desire to know how much damage you are outputting, and while it will take some time, we’ve been discussing making it so striking dummies measure DPS as well as whether we can add a training activity for new players where you’ll have to deal a certain amount of damage within a certain time. This is how we've decided to address an official DPS meter.
This is great, glad to see this!

This would indeed be in line with the goal of this thread. Hopefully we see something soon.

Right now in FFXIV you have "You die we kick!" in PF.....I see also, "HAven't watched video, we'll kick!" too.

So many boorish posts it's brutal, add a dps meter to the game and well, say goodbye to any remaining nice people in the game we just love to play.
    Well there's 2 possible scenarios:

    1. You see that type of party finder more often when casually checking the list because it's the more common type.
    2. You see that type of party finder more often because they take much longer to fill, whereas the learning / tolerant party finders fill up almost immediately.

Keep refreshing party finder and you will "nice people" parties way down at the bottom of the list (it's oldest first), but they do fill quite quickly.

Is SE completely unaware of things like FFXIVAPP that end game guilds already use to see DPS? DPS is important and players will figure out a way to obtain that information. I thought Yoshi said he wanted to allow for add ons? Why step back on that now? They already have iL reqs. What is the difference?

*I want recount, straight up. Not some goofy feature that sort of tells me how I'm doing. I want a real time bar that shows a breakdown of each skill's contribution. Will people use it to kick shitty players from our groups? Yes. That's unfortunate. I've been kicked years ago too for the same reasons. I looked at a guide for my class for 10 minutes, and never got kicked for the same reason. If you can do good dps in wow, rift, or joe shmo's mmo; you can do good dps in ARR. It's not that complex.

I read a post written by a guy who was severely handicapped, and didn't want the game to be twitchy because of it. That is a reason I sympathize with, not "not everyone wants to be 1337" or whatever scrubs say to defend their selfishness.

Because of MONEY, a DPS meter while very useful for raiding and progressions guilds to measure and adjust for DPS needs, it does indeed weed out the under-performing players and adds an unwanted pressure to perform / hate & pressure from others which will cause many to quit this game thus causing SE to lose money, it's THAT FUCKING SIMPLE IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS.

There are a lot more bad DPS as to good DPS players, why would SE risk alienating their cash cow?

The problem with that (SE's) sentiment is that there are already DPS checks in-the game. Most [if not all] major boss fights have a DPS check that can be tough to meet going in with close to base ilvl requirements, esp. when learning the fight's mechanics. It's a little silly to "shield" players from tools that allow them to review their activity and show them where their performance gaps lie in any one instance, this would help to increase the margin of error for the group as a whole. Considering that any critical errors in execution by one player [during progression] can cause a party wipe, I'd say most people concerned with their group progression welcome any help they can get to genuinely improve.
