As was previously stated, BLM is far inferior to all other ranged DPS when there is any reasonable amount of movement involved and only on par with other ranged DPS when able to sit still.

Player
so in other words, they are nerfing everyone else
I certainly hope not. MNK got buffed because it fell behind other jobs & because players preferred the "safe" ranged DPS strategies when tackling important content.
They better not nerf melee single-target because BLMs whined about their damage output in comparison to their own. Are BLMs who desire this buff actually hoping to dominate not only single-target damage, but retain their domination in AoE damage? And does SE agree with nerfs being the answer? Hopefully everyone's just overreacting...

I like how every blm has stated the same thing, that you clearly don't understand. A gear for gear comparison, blm vs other dps, blm should place 3rd or 4th, Yoshi-P stated this himself in an old live letter, due to blm's AOE power. However as it stands blm has no chance of competing for 3rd. They have edited, Mnk, Drg, Brd, and War because they where all weaker/stronger then they should have been and where being excluded from content. While blms can do enough damage the output is so low compared to everyone else most group will make you go smn.
However; currently any equally geared dps will put out substantially higher dps in non-movement fights, add in movement and it's even worse.
For instance in turn 6 if a blm gets 0 mechanic and the other dps get all of the mechanics a blm dps in it's current state would still be tied below that of another DPS. That means worst case scenario every dps is better then blm in it's best case scenario. Add in blm getting targeted by 1 mechanic and blm is further behind.
The general misunderstanding comes from when a good blm goes into something and dominates the hate/dps field, like on titan or levi where drgs, and smns should be the top dps, but great blm will constantly out dps them. This isn't because blm is a powerful bad a** job, it's because the other player isn't playing their job right.
The reason BLM is getting a buff is not because due to your personal experience with BLM that they are strong, it is A FACT that If a skill for skill and gear for gear blm vs any other dps, blm doesn't have a chance for even competing for 3rd place, it is in 4th almost 5th, and by a lot, more then what se anticipated. Also in the last Live letter they said they would be boosting all jobs.
They wouldn't nerf every job to balance out blm that would be more work, it's simple programming.
AoE damage has no use, in fact many of the new turns have anti-aoe mechanics(t7, t6 final phase). It's true blm's wouldn't be left to the cold if each fight had 1 phase with 5 mobs then you could argue a purpose to the AoE, as it stand their only good for dungeons, and most DF tanks don't want to pull more then 2 mobs at at time so they aren't even good there.
This is not XI, when they said they were adjusting Warriors it was a straight up buff and Paladin was untouched.. actually Shield Oath got an Enmity boost too

from the way they made it sound they plan to add to the other jobs(you know, buff them too) not nerf them. maybe that is how they plan to justify the addition of Leviathan-Egi and Ramuh-Egi before a level cap increaseThis is not XI, when they said they were adjusting Warriors it was a straight up buff and Paladin was untouched.. actually Shield Oath got an Enmity boost too

Its also clear the OP doesn't play BLM even in non-progression content. Fire 2 is already gimped by flare and flare only rotations for the most part. How can you bitch about AoE that you don't even understand?
