    Job discrimination in this game is nothing new. I'd like to remind y'all of when, prior to the last major patch with its better gear and echo buff on primal fights, the melee dps were being left out of Garuda Ex because of the double wicked wheels, or BLMs unwanted in Titan Ex or Ifrit Ex because of the movement and dps cuts they suffer there.

    The argument that one can simply play a different job is a fallacy. Because, yes, it's easy to level up any job to 50. But, no, it's very time-consuming to gear them properly for endgame content like Extreme Primals and Coil.

    It's an oversight to design content in a way that it marginalizes or renders jobs useless, to which they can either decide to re-tune said content, or re-balance said jobs. They decided that the content works for everybody else and they are happy with making things mostly single-boss-slugging hyper-dodge-fests, so they apparently decided that BLM is the one that needs re-tuning, not the content.

    Arguably, they'd otherwise have to try re-tuning that content so BLM are suddenly more useful, while straddling the thin line of not making it so a party would not want to ever go without a BLM no matter their specific approach to the duty. By that logic, it would make sense to improve their single-target dps output and/or mobility while taking their AoE powers down a few notches in turn. So, coming full circle to the WAR argument: I don't know anybody who thought that WAR was better the way it was before 2.1. It was definitely more interesting, but always felt like a massive liability in Coil and due to that, was a no-go for a lot of parties there. Now look at WAR's role in Coil; not only accepted, but often desired in tandem with a PLD—IMHO, that sounds a lot more like the way it should be.

    Hello,

    To put this into perspective a bit, this whole discussion about black mage adjustments began during a debate that started at NicoNico Chokaigi 3. As of right now, there are situations such as in the Second Coil of Bahamut where black mage cannot deal enough single-target DPS making it difficult for them to participate. The following is a quote from Letter from the Producer LIVE XIV:

    We are planning to make adjustments in patch 2.3.

    Black mage is purely meant for DPS, and the focus of the adjustments will be centering around increasing their overall DPS on single targets. However, as they are already very powerful when it comes to AoE DPS, they would become too powerful if we just boosted their single target DPS. Our goal is to make adjustments so that they're not immediately overlooked for trials and duties such as the Second Coil of Bahamut simply because other jobs are more advantageous; however, instead of simply enhancing black mage, we’ll be making overall adjustments to balance in relation to other jobs.

    As was previously stated, BLM is far inferior to all other ranged DPS when there is any reasonable amount of movement involved and only on par with other ranged DPS when able to sit still.

    to word correctly, We are going to nerf other jobs single target dps so blm isn't as bad in relation.

    I certainly hope not. MNK got buffed because it fell behind other jobs & because players preferred the "safe" ranged DPS strategies when tackling important content.

    They better not nerf melee single-target because BLMs whined about their damage output in comparison to their own. Are BLMs who desire this buff actually hoping to dominate not only single-target damage, but retain their domination in AoE damage? And does SE agree with nerfs being the answer? Hopefully everyone's just overreacting...

    Its also clear the OP doesn't play BLM even in non-progression content. Fire 2 is already gimped by flare and flare only rotations for the most part. How can you bitch about AoE that you don't even understand?
