Repairs to 199% is certainly a right direction now if only it wouldn't require switching to all those classes to repair each piece through cumbersome menus!!
Seriously though I'm swimming in gil so I might still just use the menders for that.

It is still going to be mostly pointless unless then drastically increase the damage your gear takes. And if they do that there will be full scale riots.
You can get a less cumbersome menu by opening the Repair action through the Actions & Traits menu. It looks (almost) the same as the NPC mender, and you can just select categories and mash "repair all" (though you have to repeat it for each of the 7 repair classes). The problem is if you have any damaged item in a category that your crafter can't yet repair -- it'll refuse to repair everything, instead of only repairing what is possible.
You can do it very fast on a controller if you have all your crafting gear sets and the repair window on a crossbar.
