    Magitek Armor Speculation

    Hey folks! So Yoshi-P was interviewed by IGN and, when questioned about Companions other than Chocobos, Magitek Armor was brought up as another potential companion (which, if you've played through the 2.0 storyline from start to finish, you can kinda understand how that would work), and I just wanted to talk about what that could end up being.

    Modifiable Magitek Armor, perhaps? Multiple Companions at the same time? Perhaps having the Magitek Companion having access to the same skills as the Magitek Armor in FFVI?

    Rather than having a chocobo out doing it's own thing, you'll probably have to pilot the magitek. So, instead of it being a 3 man party, it's 2. Could end up being like Prae where you start out with like a machine gun, and that magi blast move, but over time, you can upgrade those weapons or install new ones like missles or better armor. I kinda hope it's like PUP in XI. You could install and uninstall different mods based on how you wanna build your armor. Maybe you could sacrifice armor, for better weapons, or substitue a weapon for thicker armor. Maybe Magitek pilot would be it's own class (Machinist maybe?). Like, if you are a WHM piloting the magitek, should you have access to WHM spells?

    I definitely like that idea of being able to swap components in and out for improved stats and different abilities. That sounds really, really cool and could even end up being a very interesting PVP Mode: Magitek Mayhem!

    However, I'm not so sure about being able to use character skills while piloting one. It wouldn't make sense for a Melee class to have them, and it would be unfair if mages could use their skills while melee could not. Instead, maybe have certain jobs/classes impart certain ability unlocks for the Magitek Armor itself? WHM might get Healing Beam, PLD might get Strobe Flash, MNK might get Rocket Punch, etc.

    Well it could go either way really as there is already precedent in the game for two different concepts of using magitek armour in battle - after all, in the Praetorium, you have to use the magitek armour to smash through barricades, thus the player is given extra abilities while riding it (utilizing the magitek armour's weapon systems), so then it shouldn't be too hard to extend those abilities into the actual game (and other mounts also have similar 'battle' abilities - i.e. the beastmen mounts like the laurel goobbue which are used in certain beastmen dailies), and allow players to fight while mounted, FF Tactics style.

    And also don't forget that even though magitek armour is normally just a mech, a walking car in a sense, the player's suit of magitek armour
    actually is sentient, given the fact in the storyline it was repaired with a mamett heart, effectively a magical computer - it was even christened 'Maggie' in the storyline as a token of affection - it even saves the player at the end of the game after destroying Ultima Weapon and defeating Lahabrea, when it jumps down through the flames to the player on it's own accord,
    so having it fight alongside the player like their chocobo companion is definitely possible narrative wise. Either way, I'm really excited about this, being the FFVI fan I am.

    as awesome as it sounds an as much as i cant wait to get some use out of the magitek armor, i can already hear the complaining from new people when the norm for atma farmers turns into death squads of guys on their robots an blastin down fates even quicker lol but wouldnt it be awesome to not have to dismount when farming atmas!

    This was a topic I started WAAAAAY back in early 2014 and I just wanted to revive it because I really do want to see a Magitek Armor Companion hit the game sometime.
