    Change of city state

This question is for the devs as opposed to the community at large.

Is there any real reason we should not be able to change our city state?

I live in Gridania, I am a part of the Order of the Twin Adder, when personal housing is added I will undoubtedly buy my land in the Grid housing area. I even have a Kan-E-Senna portrait just waiting to be hung on my wall when that day arrives. My city state is listed as Limsa Lominsa, not because I wanted Limsa Lominsa, but because I started as arcanist in ARR. Since city state doesn't seem to have any real bearing on the story once you get past the early Missions I think we should be able to "move" to a city of our choosing, and which we identify with.

I realize this is a small thing, but my home state should be a reflection of my own will, and not imposed on me by the class I wanted to play at start. I pretty much never set foot in LL unless the story takes me there, so why am I stuck being a Lominsan when I am so clearly not a Lominsan?

The City-State you pick at Character Creation is the City-State you start out in. It's not your static "hometown" or anything like that. It's just where you started your adventure, and the story reflects that you started your journey there. That's all there is to it, there's no real reason to change that.

I mean, if you want to join a different Grand Company, you can do that without any real consequences. You switch from Grand Company A to Grand Company B, you start back at the bottom to build your way up, but then if you want to switch back to Grand Company A for any reason, your old rank gets reinstated.

Not really sure what you're asking with this as it doesn't really affect anything other than how the first 15-20 levels play out for you. After that, you can do whatever you want and City-State affiliations no longer REALLY matter.

That's why when I started the game I deliberately made sure to start ARR as another class to my main, which wasn't a class of my 'desired' home town (my main is GLA/PLD, but as I started 1.0 in Gridania I hence wanted to remain as a Gridanian and therefore started ARR as a CNJ just so I could start in Gridania - luckily as a 1.0 player I could easily switch back to GLA at the start anyway so it wasn't too much of a big deal for me).

But Hakuro is right - starting city choice is pretty meaningless anyway, as all it does later on is change some dialogue during a few story cutscenes where your choice of starting city is acknowledged by certain npcs.

My basic point is I don't want my player profile to list Limsa Lominsa, and that since it is essentially meaningless to the story past level 20 we should be allowed to emigrate to a new city.

To make that changeable is needlessly awkward to do (see NPCs who's dialogue changes depending on your origin. How would mother mionne, the other elzen outside the ampitheater know you if you quested in limsa, and dined with the admiral?), pointless, and there's no measurable benefit to the players, or the development staff.

What profile? The one on this site? If so you can click on setting and edit profile and change you starting city.

Some NPCs will address the player as Gridanian / Ul'dahn / Lominsan. As for actual limitations, you can only enter the leader's area outside of quests if you're a citizen of that city-state.

Minor things, but they can be irritating from an RP viewpoint.

I would be satisfied if they simply removed the city state from the in game profile or allowed players to make their own decision about whether it is displayed or not. I don't mind how it does or doesn't affect my storyline, but it bugs me every time I look at my profile. I didn't fully understand the differences between city states when I created my character. I would just start over but I'm already behind the people I play with and don't want to set myself back even further.
