Guildleves: Why do they work the way they do and will it ever change?

I enjoy the guildleve system a good bit, and why not? It is another way to play the game and enjoy your time within. But for the life of me I cannot think of any reason why SE decided to leave the Guildleve system in place from 1.0, meaning that they kept the allowances in instead of giving the players infinite uses.

Is it to control players to ensure they do other activities in the game besides Guildleves? Wasn't that type of control one of the reasons 1.0 failed to begin with?

At the very least I'd like to see a reduction in the allowance timer but in all honesty I just don't see why there are a set number of times we are allowed to use the Guildleve system.

If we're just talking about basic leves, the reason for limiting them is obvious. As they stand right now, they are obscenely good for DoH/DoL exp. I came back to the game about two weeks ago after being disgruntled with how it looked at the end of beta. Right now, the only 50 I have is MRD/WAR. If leves were infinite, and had the same exp payouts I, and pretty much anyone who had a clue, would have all crafters and gatherers at level 50 in no time at all.

That said, if they got rid of allowances completely, the exp payouts would be drastically reduced to the point where they're pretty much worthless. I'd much rather the system stay, as-is instead of becoming worthless overall.

Also, IIRC, it wasn't leve limitations that hurt 1.0 so much as the max exp gained at a time that did it in.

I see it as very generous to be honest. You don't need it at all really. The bonus from challenge log, the fact that you get six a day, and with TONS of other things to do, it's truly unneccessary to make it unlimited or I'd get addicted lol, and it sounds like you would too

My personal opinion it's just a throwback to the programming roots of the game. I wasn't there for it, but some of you may remember the "fatigue" system?
I do remember the constant reminders to log out in FFXI. Having 100 leve allowances is really a lot as it is. They replenish by, what is it, 3 every 12 hours? So, that's 6 you can do a day (my numbers might be way off)? Even if it's less, I don't think I've ever run out of them, but maybe once, and I was glad I did cause I needed a break.... My OCD had gotten the best of me and I was spamming them lol...

Is anyone really running out of allowances? The leves are so boring and repetitive that I can't comprehend how somebody would spam them over and over.

You can cap ANY crafting class even with 100 leves in a week. I know this because I capped my CUL BSM and CARP in a week each. Suggesting that leve limit somehow thwarts your leveling progress is nonsense. Especially now that we have engineering manuals that literally make even the last levels breeze by.

I always thought that the cap is just there as a back up plan should the game ever go free to play.
It's exactly the kind of wait-to-play tactics f2p games use and as such has no use in any other kind of a game.

I would like to see guildleves become more fleshed out in the future, at the very least for battle classes. It would be a great way to create more controlled encounters in the open worlds (mobs are locked to the group doing the leve).

Stuff like one-off leves that you have to find or buy.. Guildleve chains that unlock one after the other. A combination of the two. Raid bosses as guildleves...

There are so many possibilities to peruse the open world with this feature, while still having a controlled environment.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I have had EVERY class/job leveled to 50 for a while now. I only have 2 reasons to do leves now:

1 - completing my Zodiac Braves books

2 - achievements associated with completing X amount of them

Things I would like to see done:

    - Bring back something along the lines of 1.0's faction leves, where there were strong monsters you had to take down, often times with a full party. This could possibly appeal to those who liked FF11's style of using items in the open world to spawn NM's and fight them, if I recall.

    - Lv. 50+ leves that have varying difficulties based on average item level. Have them award small amounts of tomestones if successfully completed, similar to maps and beastmen quests.

    - Leves that focus more on exploration, platforming, and/or figuring out puzzles instead of fighting monsters.

    - Leves that require crafters/gatherers to form a party and cooperate together.

You don't wait-to-play if you run out of leves. You just do other content until next day.

At the beginning of 1.0 it was 8 battle/gatherer leves and 8 crafting leves each 36 hours with no build up. You missed a 36 hour window? You can't redo the missed leves. 8 leves and not more.

Then the leve allowances, how we know it in ARR, came after 1 year ingame. 4 leves each 12 hours (now 3 leves each 12 hours) that build up until 99 (now 100), no seperate leve allowances for crafters.

This was already in 1.0 ingame as faction leves. For some reason it got abandoned for ARR.

Probably because they wanted to move the game into instances, rather than continue the open world focus of 1.0
