[Request] don't let us 'freely color our chocobos'

It's essentially been confirmed Yoshida will permit us to colour our Chocobo's one way or another.

I have a dire plea with regards to this impending feature.

However it's implemented, do not let us color them however we please once the option is unlocked.

    Context follows.

In FFT, FFVII, FFXIII-3 & I bet some others... it was a thing of accomplishment/prestige to have a Chocobo of a particular colour-scheme.

In FFT, differently colored Chocobo's held unique abilities & were rare to come by until late-game or took numerous hatching to earn naturally. Getting the color of Chocobo you wanted with the desired skill-set was an achievement of its own.

In FFVII, for those completionists, to earn that Gold Chocobo was a legendary accomplishment. Even breeding the right mix of genders/traits to earn each color upgrade was its own feat.

In FFXIII-3, there is a rare, magical White Chocobo with unique plumage/size that could be earned. This special breed was yours alone & there was none like it in all the rest of the world.

So what do I suggest rather?

However the feature is unlocked, let there be a Tier System (whether via Breeding/Rank/a Mix of the Two/etc.) which would permit you to Dye your Chocobo from a limited palette set.

Ex. Tier I - floofy pastels, TII - some bright solids, TIII - some deeper, richer colors (perhaps the classic black or red are here), TIV - glossy, satiny color options unlocked, TV - golden/jet black/white legendary colours.

    PLEASE SE!

BONUS: I had the same idea for AF Gear... once upgraded, permitting dyeing from a limited palette so as to retain the "essence of the piece/set" without compromising the artistry. Ex. lvl. 45 AF -> Myth AF now dyeable but perhaps only in certain hues/shades.

Hows will this affect your gameplay if they do?

This game doesn't follow any of the previous ff when it comes to chocobos.

Generally, if there is any difference in the abilities or disposition of a chocobo, it is based upon their color. Below are a list of traditional colors for chocobos, where they appear, and what that means in terms of their abilities, if anything.

    Yellow Chocobo

Yellow chocobos are the most common of all chocobo colors and can be found in every game where chocobos appear. They are the most easily tameable of all types, and are usually the only color available for rental by the player.

    Blue Chocobo

Blue chocobo are a weaker chocobo type than black chocobos. They are able to cross rivers and streams, but typically cannot fly.when they participate in battle they are generally magic casters.

    Green Chocobo

Green chocobo is a weaker chocobo type. Their abilities are variable but in games where they participate in battle they act as healing and support characters.

    Red Chocobo
    Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Red chocobo act as offensively powerful chocobos, but are still much weaker than other breeds.

    Black Chocobo
    Final Fantasy VII.
Black chocobos were one of the first varieties of chocobo to be seen, and are one of the most common. Though rarer than standard yellow chocobos, black chocobos are able to fly, though not with the same versatility as airships. They are common sights as enemies in games.

    White Chocobo
    Final Fantasy XII.
White Chocobos are very rare, and are among the highest rank of chocobo breeds when they appear. Similarly to green chocobos, they support other characters when fought in battle, and out of battle in some games can restore the party's MP.

    Gold Chocobo
    Final Fantasy VII
Gold chocobos are the rarest and most valued type of chocobo. They are valued for their ability to fly, supplanting black chocobos as the only breed to do this in later games. Acquiring a gold chocobo is often the result of a long and difficult sidequest.

    Brown Chocobo

In Final Fantasy XII, brown chocobos can be found in Dalmasca Estersand and Salikawood, usually sleeping and docile.

Brown chocobos are also found in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, where they can use the Choco Guard ability to cast Regen and increase defense. They also appear as enemies in Final Fantasy Tactics S.

    Silver Chocobo

Added in Final Fantasy XIII-2 the silver chocobo is a defense-oriented Sentinel. While, like many of the chocobos in Final Fantasy XIII-2, it's in the running for best Sentinel in the game, it really shines for being the earliest, and arguably best, racing chocobo in the game. It learns the best racing abilities easily and its stats hit the max for the racing game with some reasonably easy grinding for the point in the game it's found at.

    Purple Chocobo

In Final Fantasy XIII-2, Purple Chocobos are Synergists. Like many of the chocobos, it's one of the best monsters for its role. They are native to Bresha Ruins 100 AF and 300 AF. In Chocobo Stallion, they appear as one of many colored racing chocobos.

    Other Types
    Fat Chocobo

Fat Chocobo is a different type of chocobo, and never appears as a playable chocobo. Instead, the Fat Chocobo serves another role, by storing the player's items in the series' early games, appearing as a summon in Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, serving a storyline role by being the king of all chocobos in Final Fantasy IX, and as a mount in Final Fantasy XIV.

    Baby Chocobos

Baby chocobos, known as "chicobos" in Final Fantasy VIII, appear in certain games of the series. In Final Fantasy V Boco and Koko have children, and in Final Fantasy VIII the player can obtain a chicobo from a Chocobo Forest to play as in the Chocobo World minigame.

A baby chocobo named Bobby Corwen is revealed to have hatched from an egg in the Black Mage Village in Final Fantasy IX. The tiniest baby chocobo type appears in Final Fantasy XIII, with Sazh's Chocobo Chick being small enough to use his afro for a nest.

    Pulse and Cocoon Chocobos

Final Fantasy XIII has two different types of chocobos, Pulse and Cocoon breeds. Chocobos roaming the Archylte Steppe in Gran Pulse live in the wild and are much larger than their domesticated Cocoon counterparts, as well as having a more vicious appearance. Cocoon chocobos can be found in Nautilus' petting zoo. Sazh's chocobo chick is a Cocoon chocobo.

Blah blah blah lore butthurt blah blah blah

They would rather watch the game die and keep lore than make the game more appealing and fun and stretch the lore a bit.

    Not discussing gameplay, just aesthetic.

As it is, I doubt they will limit colors by Companion Skillset (a la FFT), but regardless, not what this thread is concerned with.

I would be okay however if they did gate certain colors by gameplay selection, but that's just me. I'm more concerned with certain "tiers of colors" being available from the get-go.

Is that for them or me? Either way colors only seperate chocobos by their skill set which our companions is fully capable of doing them all except fly and walk on bodies of water.

Partially why I think limiting color sets should be a thing or unlocked differently in this title so as to preserve the classic meaningfulness of a Chocobo's coat-color.

If certain things are rarer, then everybody is going to use that particular thing.

White chocobo is the most special of all? At some point everyone will have it and use it because RARE.

Although I do hope/wish it was more interesting than simply dying the colour. I liked in FFXI how we could get certain colours and adjust their shape slightly based on how they were raised.

since we are getting a chocobo breeding system, i am pretty sure its a safe bet that the colors will come from breeding not dyes, or else there would be no point in breeding.
