    Fish NPC prices.

Does anyone else believe fish prices are a little too low? given the vast majority of fish serve no purpose BUT to NPC, it seems weird that teleport and repair costs overshadow what you can get from the fish.

As an example, I just fished til I got the "Something amiss.." message at Brewer's Beacon, and received 482 gil. The cost of repairs and the teleport to Aleport was a total of 728 gil. I'm OK with it not being a huge profit for economy/bot reasons, but it sure would be nice if it covered the teleports and repairs involved. :\

They actually were higher. I remember checking the Hyaline in Beta 2 and thinking, "This actually isn't so bad." Logged in in beta 4 and they had plummeted. Just another way SE shows how much they hate fishers.

Just another anti-RMT measure to keep them from getting rich from NPCs.

I tried fishing extremely briefly in 1.0, but not enough to know about it's profitability; and I never tried it in beta at all. That really sucks.

I understand that, but they should really should raise it enough to where an hour of fishing nets you at least 1k. I could use botany or mining (Which RMT bot also) and make more in <2 minutes. It just sucks, since I really like fishing.

In FFXI, fish sold for a decent amount of gil. This turned out to be THE most effective way for gilsellers to collect the gil that they sold to players (and for players using bots to earn easy gil during hours when they were not able to play the game manually). Unlike a lot of other RMT actions, such as killing NMs for rare drops or mining ore to sell to players, fishing up fish and selling them to NPC was flooding the economy with NEW money. It's just as bad as a government that decides to solve its debt problems by minting new money.

SE was very much in the right to avoid that problem here. Now, fish sell for roughly a tiny bit less than the cost of the bait used to catch them, typically resulting in a net loss of gil (since you'll usually catch a bunch of low-level fish as well that won't recoup the cost of bait). Or, you can use lures and catch a bunch of fish for free - slowly.

Fishing is now a terrible source of gil for RMT, so Fishers have a whole lot less competition when it comes to selling useful fish on the Marketboards. See the crappy junk fish prices as they truly are: a blessing!

As I mentioned in the OP, I know what their reasoning is, I'm just saying it's a bit unreasonable. There's also a huge difference between fishing for a net loss (Current system), and the system FFXI had (Black Sole NPCing for 720 gil a piece). I just think fishing for an hour should involve going into profit somehow, and not losing gil through the teleport and repair cost. Not even getting into bait, since I try to use lures any time I can.

    Waitafrickingminuet.

You fished at Brewer's beacon and NPCed the catch? My L 50 fisher alt fishes there with goby balls, going for white coral. The bycatch, harbor herring, is also saleable on the AH. I find it hard to believe you caught neither of those.

You teled when you could have choco portered from Swiftperch for 15 or 30 gil?

This is Squenix's fault just how?

Herring NPCs for 4 gil, it's selling for 9 gil currently.

White Coral I received 7 of after an hour of fishing, and sell extremely slowly for 200-300 gil, although depending on the crafting needs of the economy, that can swing high or low more often.

Also how is swiftperch remotely relevant? I would have to teleport there also unless you're going to pull the walk everywhere card. You could have at least suggested setting my HP to Limsa and taking the ferry and suggesting the inconvenience is worth the paltry sum that would save (Which would cost more in the long run due to missing the free-HP to a more regularly visited location), but hell if we're going to completely ignore huge inconveniences for paltry sums, I'd personally suggest "Hey, just set your HP in Swiftperch and return when you need to go back!".

You do realize servers don't share the same market boards, right? Or do you not understand how that translates to fish and varying levels of market board profitability?

On Sarganatas white coral sells for more than red coral and faster too, that's the top spot for it.

L1 bait, like the goby balls, conveniently sold at Swiftperch, are great for that.

I would never tell you to walk everywhere, that's what chocobos are for. But do not blame Squenix for your economic choices.

You are, of course, allowed to blame them for what they did to fishing.

I think more now "useless" fish should be changed to usefull by making them eitehr craftable to or exchangable for bait (even make it bound to you to avoid RMT missuse) or to fishmeal or another type of gardening fertilizer (again could be bound to you).
