Can't roll Need on Aetherial Steel Scale equipment

Steps:
1. Enter Brayflox's Longstop as a Lancer or Dragoon (in my case, Dragoon wearing the full Steel Scale set)
2. Hope for a drop from the Aetherial Steel Scale set from one of the loot chests
3. You will find the "Need" button grayed out, despite how your class is specifically whitelisted for the item (and it likely gives some much needed stat boosts!)

The Steel Scale set is actually a tank set that Lancers/Dragoons can wear as well.

Since it's intended as a tank set, you can't Need roll on it as DPS.

There exist other items that can even be worn by any class/job, but only specific classes/jobs can roll Need on, so even if a gear piece is whitelisted for a specific class/job, it's not certain you can Need on it if it's not intended for your class/job.

When you do class/job quests you see that the reward for Lancer/Dragoon is often gear that are also for PGL/MNK and ARC/BRD, rather than gear from sets that can be worn by tank+LNC/DRG.

Yeah, so I was told mere minutes after posting this. Sadly, it's also the best equipment available to mid-level Lancers - the second best equipment for a very long time after the Steel Scale set becomes available is dozens of valuable DEF points behind, with seemingly no other benefit.

This may well be by design for all I know, in which case it's merely a big problem for mid-level Lancers. There's a bit of an equipment drought for a very large level span in the 30-40s, in which the Steel Scale set and the Grand Company sets are really viable, so not being able to obtain Aetherial versions of this set is troublesome to say the least.

If you get your paws on a hq Steel Scale set, that's better than Aetherial as you can meld the steel scale but not aetherial... Aetherial is often just same as regular or hq but with a random additional stat.
You can get Aetherial if the others in the group pass and you greed though, so it's not completely out of reach even if you can't get HQ.

At 38 you can get the Horn Scale set for a nice upgrade over Steel Scale.
That will last you to 45 for non-body pieces when you get some AF pieces.
At 46 you can switch to Tortoiseshell Scale Mail for body which will last you to 50.
