    Persistent world

    Hello,

I would love to play in a game with a persistent world, that is the world changes even if only a little bit when my charecter has done something, typically a quest or a fate. I was thinking that it can be done with cyclic quests. Exemple : a fate pops and nobody is there go do it. The fate consists of mobs attacking a house. The house is now in ruins. The next character coming can have a quest to rebuilt thé house. Once it is done, back to the fate.

It would be great to have this kind of feature.

Technically ARR is a persistent world - certain FATEs have consequences if it fails or wins - certain NPCs won't be there for instance. But you also have to balance it out with the whole point of FATEs in the first place - that is, they're designed so that players can come and go at will with them and undertake them at their leisure. Locking elements of the world based around how a FATE occurs only adds unnecessary restrictions to it.

Also undertaking the story you'll notice certain subtle changes in the world as you go along - certain npcs who weren't there before now appear for instance, and other npcs who didn't know who you were originally now speak of you in glowing terms. It's not exactly what you're after, but it's a start.

Yep, I noticed the small changes you are referring to. By the way, I am not talking about your own character like it was the case with phasing in WoW (I find it not interesting as you were not able to group if you weren't in the same phase). The changes you are referring to are similar as they only affects you. I was thinking more about how you can affect what other players are seeing. For instance, the Shahguins zone ( sorry don't know the name in english) with this wall which delimits it. There is an NPC that gives some quests. Imagine you implement a fate where the Shahguins attacks the wall. So if nobody does the fate, the wall is now in ruins. You get some another delimiter a little further with maybe some NPC fighting the Shahaguins. The NPC who gives the quests is now standing at this new delimiter, he can give the same quests. You are now in a different state which would provide other fates to go back to the old delimiter wall. I mean this is not fundamentally different but the landscape (not sure about the word) changes a little bit and everybody sees the same thing. Just an idea though.
