Oh! That's something I hadn't even considered. I totally agree, though, since the return action has a 15 minute recast timer, but the timer doesn't apply when returning due to death. (going to edit original post...)
Of course, but the thing is that if bloodporting while suited up incurs only a minor loss, then the general populace will deem it just as effective as bloodporting naked, and therefore abuse it further (like we do now). If that gear hit is large, like 20%+, most people will think twice before dying on purpose, or actually stop and take the time and remove all their gear before engaging something. If you die in a party (geared up) and don't feel like waiting for a raise, or engage stuff (geared up) all willy-nilly just to bloodport yourself out of some place, then you deserve a 20%+ gear hit lol
I think enforcing this will also help with people abandoning parties. Some people get super mad when they die, so they just blood port and don't come back. If someone like that enters your party, happens to die and is particularly mad about it... Fine, no raise for you, enjoy your 20%+ gear hit, douche. Haha.
They are never going to take out 1/5th of an item's total durability just for dying.
I could see it happening in a game like FFXI, but not in FFXIV.
For dying without a raise. Big difference. And with Raise now being lvl 14, everyone will have it. You'd have to be a real loner to not be able to get a raise now lol. It's not as unreasonable as you'd think.
I couldn't say what SE has in store for us (other than complete guesses). In another day or so I suppose we'll see. Given that a whole bunch of things are changing at once, it could be quite a surprise. The question is, just how bad WOULD a 20% durability loss be? What are the horrible negative consequences?
In addition to both Raise AND Resurrect being rank 14 (so people can load up on both, if they like), the repair system is also being drastically simplified, with the addition of Dark Matter. It might well be an interesting balance (since there has been some outcry that lowering Raise / Res to R14 and reducing the number of repair mats to only 5 is making the game too easy) for a large-ish durability hit for death / return. This would be an actual PENALTY! Not as extreme as SP loss, but still noticeable enough to make it more distasteful.
P.S. I was considering something higher, on the order of 50%, but a character could reasonably be at 50 to 60% durability already just from normal wear, in which case one death / return could drop the gear condition to "extremely worn". A 20% couldn't take gear from "perfectly okay" to "massively damaged" as a result of a single death. Just my 2 gil.
