Confused by classes/crafting.

Need clarification on classes and crafting. Today I joined the carpenter guild and was wondering if it was possible to join each guild in relation to crafting/gathering. Also say if I want to build a chair as a carpenter, can I actually gather the needed materials as a botanist and than craft the chair as the carpenter? Would I be required to rely on other players (aka the market) for certain items to build/craft/gather. I ask because I'm trying to figure out how it all works out. Could one simply take up every crafting/gathering class and take the time to gather the materials to build items himself and not rely on the market say?
Oh and how would one level up each class if you've already completed a bunch of quests as say an Archer at the beginning other that killing monsters or entering FATE's. Is there an alt method of earning XP?

Clearing up my confusion would be greatly appreciated friends.

Yes you can basically l l up every DoH and DoL by yourself and gather everything without relaying on anyone. For DoH you craft to get exp and do leves. For DoL you gather outside and do eves for exp.

You can be every single DoL and DoH class on 1 character. Botanist would help culinary, weaver and carpentry, fisherman with culinary mostly and of course miner with anything related to armor crafting.

As for leveling second classes on the same character there are:

hunting logs
fates
dungeons
challenge logs
leves
guildhests

I understand that, but I wanted some clarification on what options were available to you. In almost every MMO I've played you end up being limited to what crafting profession you can take up and having to rely on other players. I just wanted to know for sure.

you can level all classes (DoW, DoM, DoL, DoH) on one toon. In fact, it makes life a lot easier to level all DoL and DoH together since they use things from each other (LTW uses stuff from WVR and such).

XIV is unique like that - you can take literally every job to 50 and have them all completely maxed out in gear - all on one character. It's all just a matter of how much time you, personally, are willing to invest!

Honestly, if you plan to craft, it's a great idea to get all crafts to 15 at some point, even if you only plan to 'main' one crafter all the way to 50. The level 15 skills from crafting are actually each unique, and can be transferred onto the other classes to help out. Level 37 and 50 skills are also unique and crossclassable, but those are obviously a far more significant time investment.

Far from being unique (Eden Eternal had this before FF) and perhaps another one before.

SE looked at all MMOs and took a bit of this one and a bit of that one.. (Eden Eternal, GW2 Dynamic Events (FATEs), gold titles when you change maps or location (SWTOR) etc...)
