I am ok with the looks (this thread was the same when in Beta, but with new players, I guess SE will have to look at it lol)

I just want Ifrit to be... usefull at endgame?

Mayhap with the level cap raise, new abilities will make it superior than garuda?

Can't wait to see Levi-Egi in action! ^^ (then again, poor Ifrit won't be needed)

It feels ike this: use carbuncle < Ifrit (gbye carbuncle) < Titan (gbye Ifrit) < Garuda (gbye Titan) < Levi (gbye Garuda) < Ramuh (gbye Levi) on and on...

I heard rumors that the development times is actually agitated by this concept of one replacing the other. They plan to overhaul it where each one will fill a unique niche for fights sometime soon.

Just rumors though, I have no idea if there is actually a source for this or not.

Primal ex are going to turn into FATEs at some point with a claim system maybe? As it is at the moment no one that have lev access do Garuda Titan and Ifrit ex unless they helping FC member. Putting the ex as a FATE will make them relivent again. Will be similar to what we saw in the benchmark against Ifrit. I think SE do this with all primels after they been out for some time, and 2.3 - 3.0 we will see the first installment of this to tie in too FC primels summoning.

Summoner isn't even as a pet class right now, the egis look pathetic enough to justify what they really are - an extra DoT for "Summoner".

To be fair, from an ability standpoint FFXIV's Egis aren't any different than FFXI's Avatars were at around Level 50. Heck Titan is ten times better a tank than any of FFXI's avatars. If they wanted more emphasis on the Egis though they could give SMNs a stance that buffs Egi stats etc. at the cost of their own. Without a stance, a straight buff to the Egis would require either a substantial increase in MP cost or recast time. It's the double edged sword of any pet class. How do you make the pets relevant without making the class as a whole OP or making the character useless without the pet summoned. As for appearance, part of that is just to give them the freedom to design the Primals without worrying about how they'll look following the SMN around. They would have to shrink the Primals if they were used as a pet or they'd dominate the screen and get in the way and Titan would look ridiculous standing barely taller than a character.

1: digimon are awesome, don't even.
2: it's the design team's choice. Some artist has done that and saying "this is trash" at their work is wtf rude. It's not to your personal preference. It doesn't mean it's trash.
3: Did you read the summoner storyline? Your main point is that egis break immersion, when they're actually explained. They can't be like FFXI's Avatars, because they are not FFXI's Avatars. An egi is corrupted aether, bound into egi form by you, in a practise used originally by the ancient Allagan. It's really not that difficult to understand. If anything FFXI's Avatars break immersion, since there's no justification or reason for them to even exist on Eorzea. No Protocrystals, no nothing.

Disclaimer: I personally do not like the look of egis myself. But! I think there's a very broad line between feedback about the quality of the game / broken code / broken mechanics and stuff that just doesn't work and ragging on someone's creative licence in pet appearance. Diss the functionality of pets all you like, they're extremely broken and apparently will be addressed (yay!) - but outright saying someone's design is awful is really disrespectful to that concept artist.

My only real complaint is how bad Garuda looks.

Titan is pretty cleverly made out of rocks and designed so this verison floats instead of walks.
Ifrit is kind of OK for a floating design of the avatar.

But Garuda? She was flying to begin with, and yet had to be transformed into some kind of green blob that is almost impossible to see any resemblance to the avatar.

They could do with being a little bit bigger, like 40 or 50% but I think Ifrit and Titan look cool. Garuda looks okay.
