While I agree with this, it would be counter-intuitive to delete retrospectively learned skills.
I mean, really, would you have the next patch with a bunch of R50s all with no skills farming the same NMs for the best skills and spells, or have them all bought from a shop? What would be the point in that other than remove gil from the system?
I like the idea, I have to say, although it would be an impossibility.

Or, as an alternative people fail to see, let everyone keep their abilities and from now on, make them quested or drops or bought. This way, any new abilities will need to be worked for in the future and any new players from now on will have to work for it. Now, this may sound unfair because it means any R50 people right now will have not worked for it and anyone else from now on will have to work for it. That's just something that people will have to live with though.

Just so you know it's not just for my benefit that this system should be in place, I have no R50s and I don't have any mage jobs levelled yet, but I will in the future, and I'd be happy to do it.

In regards to OP topic, I wouldn't mind if we did have to train or purchase the scrolls, BUT...

I harken back to FFXI English launch days and must say, if it's an ability expected of us, but it comes as a random drop from the boss of a higher rank dungeon or a world drop that is sold for crazy amounts of gil in the Wards, I would have to be against it (I'm looking at you Erase spell!).

But if it's closer to the way we purchase abilities using Guild Marks, sure! Was kinda hoping for an accrue JP and buy new abilities system anyway.

That why I would have liked it if they decided to keep the physical level. The physical level could have been used for personal character growth with bonuses related to all classes or simple character customization.

The physical level could have things like: running speed enhancement, more points for accessories, additional points for elemental affinity, very limited regeneration while in active mode, additional inventory space, certain discipline affinity for skills slightly increased, etc.

There are many possible aspects for personal growth without making it a pain like point distribution that needed to be changed for each class we wanted to play. I still believe it is a mistake to take away the physical level as it could bring character evolution many players seek.

Thank you for reading. Please note, my example are simply examples, but the idea is there: physical level for character evolution and customization as a whole.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

I like that you get to automatically learn skills/spells in FFXIV, they already have purchased skills via guildmarks. In FFXI most spells were honestly just purchased from the auction house which didn't really enhance gameplay in my opinion. To me it seems that my character should "learn" skills through repeated practice, rather than just buying everything.

I agree with this, the way they should implement should be so that scrolls that do drop or obtained from quests are untradeble it would make it much easier and not allow for inflation.

You should be able to auto-learn skills that would otherwise be placed in a store for you to buy.
I think 1 Quest-Soloable (but challenging, maybe die a few times on practice) per 5 levels would be decent to an "RPG"

(I think most people complain about running around because they loose time they could be grinding or hunting NMs.)
(People who like to quest get annoyed about having to grind or hunt NMs, on the flipside.)

I think 1 Quest-Needs Party skill should be made per 15~20 levels. But it would generally be a "party beneficial skill" so that other people would be willing to help you get it. (Also the quest should offer as much SP as a PT would normally be able to grind... otherwise... should be a "fun" alternative to just grind PT)
And then finally, you have skills that should just be as rare as a peice of god-equipment. Untradeable, unsellable on pickup.

That doesn't seem to hard, and hits a balance, yea?
