That's NOT what the OP is saying at all and HENCE why the thread is still open for discussion. I don't want the game to be overly difficult but to make it "easy mode" to learn/get things is NOT fun it's just lazy and easy. Just asking the Devs to look into this and to have you actually have to work for it is not a bad thing.
Wanting to have to work for things is fine, but not in this way. Make us work using strategy to kill a boss, or using specific gear or skill setups. Don't make us work just to get access to the things that provide us the ability to play.:dislike:

Right on but what's so special about that? That was done in XI and every other MMO. So how come it's ok to keep that but not ok to briing back something that 1) worked and 2) people enjoyed? No ... no one enjoyed the "farming" but again as I just mentiond, we don't want easy or hard we just would like to feel more involved with our characters.![]()
Yeah, hell no. This isn't 2001.
This is a terrible idea. Farming scrolls for your skills is just a meaningless substitute for actual content. This wouldn't even be something people were thinking about if there was enough other stuff to do. Focus on the gameplay, not on putting meaningless obstacles between the player and the gameplay.

Maybe if people would stop thinking along the lines of "farming" and more along the lines of "playing" then it wouldn't be an obstacle it would merely be another part of playing the game.Yeah, hell no. This isn't 2001.

What is so wrong with people wanting to BE part of their characters and more involved in the progression of them? That's what I remember was so great about a majority of the FF franchise!
The problem is that it's meaningless content. The gameplay is largely defined by skills. They should be what provide you the means to get OTHER things, not the things you have to work to get.Maybe if people would stop thinking along the lines of "farming" and more along the lines of "playing" then it wouldn't be an obstacle it would merely be another part of playing the game.

It's just chucking more obstacles in the way of real content. I mean hell, if we're gonna have to work to get skills, let's also work to unlock Disciples. Then once those are unlocked, let's have to quest to unlock each class. Blah blah blah. No thanks. More actual content, less filler, please.

Not disagreeing with you Travesty as content is needed and this isn't filler it's for those who wish they felt more connected to the story and the characters with in it.The problem is that it's meaningless content. I'll ask you this, are you one of those folks who just plays for the social interaction, which lacks as well, or do you enjoy a game with a good story? If it's the first then debating this point with you is pointless for us both. I know many who played XI not for story and could have cared less wth happened or how it happened and just wanted to hang out and kill stuff. Others and myself like the story aspect and this for us IS part of that. If I just wanted to hang out and kill stuff I would play a FPS. In FFXIV, I wanna BE my character and be more then just a button masher.
Oh I definitely love a good story. That's why I played FFXI and hate WoW. But I don't view a requirement to quest for, kill for, or purchase skills from other players to be an example of quality storytelling. It certainly isn't in FFXI. It's far more of an annoying burden than anything else. If you want to be more connected to your character there are a hell of a lot better ways to do it than that, like a backstory revealed through the main quest line, or even customizable player housing and the like. Not disagreeing with you Travesty as content is needed and this isn't filler it's for those who wish they felt more connected to the story and the characters with in it.

If you want to add some quests to obtain a couple class defining skills, I have no problem with that. That's an acceptable storytelling mechanic. But making it so that no skills are auto-learned like the OP suggests, and there's a scroll to obtain or a quest to do or a mob to kill for every ability/spell like for XI mages, that's unacceptable. It's just an obstacle and a sign that there isn't enough real content.
