Eorzea is an absolutely breathtaking place. Why in the seven hells would you want to argue AGAINST having flying? Do you have any idea how beautiful even a blocky eyesore like WoW looks from the sky?

/disagree. I want to fly over the lake in mor dhona... I want to explore the water source at the burning wall... Flying probably wont work that way anyway, but still...
No one uses mounts anyway so doesn't really bother me. I've got ten mounts but just teleport everywhere anyway.

not sure about that free to fly in every area mounts thing,
but yea, give FCs their own airships in one way or another.

What I'm hoping(and probably has no chance of happening) is if they make one massive "up in the sky" zone that puts everyone into a map that's like the boat/airship ones from XI. Huge, but showing the game world below in lesser detail due to being up so high. They could let people fly their ships around in this area, anchor at cities and the like, crash into little groups of flying mobs to change to a deck view where you can fight them, let people skyfish from their decks, and so on. Maybe even allow for some airship customization too, more speed, ramming prows to debuff large boss things flying up there before the fight, or vastly different looks(I'm thinking the variety from XII).They mentioned in an interview (last year, I think) that the world wasn't designed to be viewed from above which is why the airships are only a brief CS rather than an actual ride. When FC/personal airships are introduced I would expect the to be in their own instanced areas.

I don't want flying mounts. They're cool at first, but really hurt the game in subtle ways.
But swimming? That's so much worse. In all of gaming only two good things have happened underwater. Ecco the Dolphin and sex with Yuna.
I chuckled at your summary.
I don't like the idea of flying mounts either. However, it'd be great to have a "black Choco" idea implemented in each city that allows you to jump on, flag a location, fly there, jump off and the Choco or whatever goes back home. Or something akin to this that is already there with chocos, fly between cities for a Gil charge.
And could implement a flight-between-City States that has an overhead view.
None of the above would be real game changers IMO but would still be nice and fun to have.

Flying mounts would kill this game in my honest opinion. Please never add them.
No way can I see them adding flying mounts - at least not for travel within a zone.
With that said though I would love to see zones grow in size or handle transitions between zones without a loading screen. I feel like its the PS3 that made them take that path here (and in other game mechanics) so we'll be on a crutch unfortunately.
Its ok. No one is supposed to pass WoW in this area and I'll keep playing FF but it sure would be welcomed to remove zoning with future content.
Definitely looking forward to that DX11 client on the PC in the future.
