The discussion is more about how much of a hindrance people are that blindly waltz into a tough/demanding fight and then have the gall to ask their party for a walkthrough, rather than taking 5 minutes to educate themselves beforehand.

I'm sorry to hear that. At the end of the day, this is a game about player interaction, whether we like it to be or not. You could be severely limiting yourself in that regard by feeling that way. The points I tried to make were that people join in from different experiences, so we, as the more experienced, should take that into consideration. But you're entitled to play the way you feel. I was just in a T4 run that just started off with a bang... here is a screenshot of the chat, I have a brown line through my name green line through his, and circled what was said after I asked what I needed to know, I hid all the names,


I've also seen people get ripped if they didn't play a job the way someone else does (or like earlier was just told they "sucked at your job" but no advice whatsoever) then looked up the character and found they "MIGHT" have it unlocked but that's it, here's an idea instead of ripping on someone give advice, and not cut them down.

It doesn't matter in the 4 man content but people like this have ruined way too many full party's that I've qued up for maybe an hour + for. It's like they have no shame. Just saunter in and expect everyone else to fill them in.

I won't quit out over it but it's frustrating.

Yup and a good way to improve social interaction is by trying to be the best player you can. Coming into a complex fight and saying hey tell me what to do here is not a good way to have quality social interactions...

Everyone can play how they want but in an MMO where social interactions are required, the more effort you put in the better the community will respond. Those who don't want to read up on a fight, no problem, just accept the fact it will cause others not to want to group with you. It's their choice to play the game how they want as well. If that means not grouping with you... So be it.

The thing is, watching videos does absolutely nothing for me. I don't take anything in from them, I need to do the fight myself and experience it. I entered Garuda Ex once, I made notes anyway so I wasn't completely unaware of the fight, but they all left purely because I told them I was new. Not one of them asked if I'd even watched a video or made notes. That is just wrong. :/

Let me adjust that "It's common nowadays, MMO or elsewhere, to watch videos".....When MMOs were new, and before the dreaded WoW....NOBODY looked at videos, read write ups...EVER. People actually ENJOYED playing, and helping other players, because how can you "waste time" playing a game???

You tell me where you could find easily accessible and detailed information sources and video guides for any MMO back when 56k was still the norm. YouTube wasn't even a thing when WoW was released!

In XI, the first time I joined a sky farming ls in '06 or '07, it was required to "read up" on it. Especially because you didn't start with all the maps. You had to get them from chests, I think.

Just FYI, Blizzard has made exactly zero first person shooters. Funny comment from someone who was harping on "new MMO players" pages back. The way I'm looking at it, you seem like the new one. Modern MMOs have different gameplay than FFXI and other older genration MMOs, which I'm guessing is about all you've probably played. End game content is harder than it used to be, and research is one of the expectations that has come with it. This is not new to this game. It exists in every recent MMO that I have played (and I actually have played a lot). Expecting to be taught everything by a random group of players in complex, multi-phase fights is pretty rude.

Oh sorry.....not first person shooters...console racing games and the such...but they were primarily CONSOLE developers and strategy games, NOT mmorpgs....and no I haven't played any Final Fantasy games before this one...as I don't play console games.

But yes...it exists in every RECENT mmo...which was the point of my post.....RECENT.
