But FFXIV allows you to switch to any job/class at anytime on the same character. So the way its implemented makes perfect sense. Sorry I'm not 'hardcore' enough to level all my jobs to 50 immediately. But I'll get there eventually!I don't think it's fair for people to be able to GREED over something they cannot equip.
I know what you're thinking: "if you want something, then go as the job to NEED", and I understand that this is not a critical problem, only for alts. But in this game, where one chest drops loot for every classes, and everyone can level up all classes, i think it's something that's been overlook.
Now, a couple of MMOs already do this by disabling the GREED button if you cannot equip it, which seems like a reasonable idea. Another option would be to have a second GREED. This would also prevent fresh lvl50 players to immediatly equip end-game gear before they actually have any experience on it.
I'm just sick of seeing people get screwed over by someone that can't even use the item.

The system works perfectly fine, everybody deserves to roll on the loot because everybody contributed. What they want to do with it is nobody's business. If you ask nicely for what you need, chances are many people will pass unless they need it as much as you.
The solution is simple: Allow everyone to view rolls as soon as the loot list gets updated! You don't even have to view the number they rolled...just the fact they rolled on said item. So, if you agreed to let the bard have monk boots but the troll rolled on the monk boots...everyone can see that he placed a roll and can postpone rolling until he leaves. Or allow a vote kick but to stop ABUSE....if he was unfairly vote kicked then everyone who voted to dismiss him should have their accounts suspended and loot removed. SIMPLE! and SE needs to stand strict on this to make sure first offenses are suspended and second offenses are banned.

I don't know if having a new rolling option is going to solve anything.
Sure, granted people roll on gear they can't even use. Is leveling in this game so difficult? Does having a 50 in a particular job grant you some level of awesomeness that you should be rewarded from then on, forever?
I guess what I'm getting at is that since I've started playing this game, I've known many people that have every job leveled, merely for the purpose of being allowed to roll on anything. Here I would be, playing bard, being a bard that is all I play, and someone like that, with every job, trying to talk me out of rolling on "need" on a drop that I wanted for the only job I played.
I guess I just have issue with anyone rolling on "Greed" on stuff without thought. Just because you have a particular job at 50, doesn't even mean you have time to play it or even like to play it. I think having a job leveled that you don't even like and rolling on gear for it, is about as bad as rolling on gear for a job that you haven't even unlocked. I've known people too that roll on stuff for jobs they haven't unlocked. Often these people only log on to raid, so I knew they had no intention of ever leveling that job. They just rolled because of the "pokemon" factor, as I'd call it. Gotta catch em all (loot)!
In the end it doesn't really matter, it's just pixels. The only thing that I actually find troubling is that whole politeness factor. Just, why can't people not be jerks all the time and just realize that like, certain people will enjoy whatever piece of gear more and let them have it, that they maybe can only have maybe 3 jobs that they will ever really play and any gear more than that is just kind of silly (or unless they are just incredibly bored and don't log off much). :P
Also, I guess I thought I'd add: Those of you that make premades, but pug that one extra person. I like to pug in party finder sometimes, so often I've been that extra person. How unpleasant is it when some piece of gear drops, it could even be for my main class that I happen to even be on, and without any prior agreement, they assume I'm going to pass for "little joe" or some hapless person from their premade that "really needs the gear". In fact, it won't even come up that I'm even there. It's just "Congratulations Little Joe!" when the item drops and if I rolled for some reason, they are just horrified. I don't know why people should be so shocked. I often find myself passing in these situations anyway, but just feeling like a fool. I won't even get a thank you. Not that I need one. It's just, they just expect such behavior, when me joining this group, had no such covets listed beforehand that I'd just pass everything for the "experience" of raiding with such a "awesome" group... :x lol Often, when these situations happen, I wasn't even aware I was "the pug" till the end. As far as I knew, everyone joined like I did, but it became pretty obvious when the loot roll window popped up that everyone besides me were "pals".

What about just remove NEED. Makes it fair for everyone ^^
I had all DoW/DoM classes at 50 except for 1, PGL, which was at 15. I never intended to level it, passing ALL non-GC-turn-in MNK gear that dropped (even seen a bunch of Allagan hit the floor).
Farming T5 for my boots a month or so ago, they finally drop. I'm so excited I Greed the weapon in haste without seeing what it was (T5 group was specifically running to get those boots, so yeah, no other DRG) and hear the ding after I hit Need, then a second ding right after. Look down confused and see a list of names and then read the item name I won:
Allagan Baghnakhs
Oops
Long story short, I got Mantra last night...and the moment I get MNK to 50 (next week) it will likely be i93 or so...
Without winning those weapons, I would have never touched PGL again...

While I understand the OP's frustration, I don't think we "need" another loot system. This has to do with people's decency rather than "OmGZ! SE needz to fixz thiz @&€!"
I think it happened to most of us. I just remember them and never play with them again.
SE should make it available to write notes when we blacklist people. xD

I would give this advice to everyone... unless you have something better .. greed EVERYTHING.. just because you don't NEED it now and might not have any intentions of ever leveling the job... you probably will eventually.. and if someone really NEEDED something they would run with that job.. as for the deal with the greed pty.. that is just bs.. that whm was kind enough to change his/her job to help out and you just piss on them.. stuff like that should be an instant permaban.. none of this first time warning bs.. get rid of them... which is not contradicting my original statement as this party had all agreed before hand that the whm rod would go to the sch.
