Yeah, I don't blame you for thinking that. It's a lower cost of entry compared to a gaming pc, and non-tech-savvy parents who are getting their kids a console tend to go for whatever is cheapest. (though PS4 is no longer the cheapest since Xbox One is going to be sold, as an option, without the Kinect for the same $399) There are plenty of studies I've seen that show the age demographics for pc being several years older on average than consoles, since they are more expensive and require more knowledge for construction/upkeep/etc.
Hopefully this will start dying off a bit once all the people who got the game at release end their free month and decide they don't like it enough to continue, and it has been about a month since the PS4 release since my auto-renew just started recently.
I am on PS4, but also use a wireless usb keyboard for chatting, and am always open to giving/receiving advice, as long as people's attitudes are decent. I am even fine with others (i.e. especially while doing low level roulette) who are new and are dying as long as I can see they are making an effort and listening to what the other players are saying. I am still relatively new myself, and this is even my first mmo, though I put a good deal of effort into learning at least an overview of each class/job for future reference. I have not tanked yet, but even in the lvl 50 dungeons (not the hm ones) I have had to give the tank advice on extremely basic stuff...which honestly is pretty sad. Heck, even in temple of qarn (back when I was even with the level requirement) I had one game where we wiped 7 times at the first boss with all the instant death mechanics because of the tank being new, but because he was light-hearted about it and actually listened, we were able to pass it, and I didn't mind one bit that it took so long, as long as whoever was causing the holdup was able to visibly improve. As far as I'm concerned, as long as people are doing their best and not constantly screwing around, I don't care if it's not a super ideal party setup in terms of gear and experience.
