Here's the thing: They're new players. They'll figure out real quick that they're not going to get very far without cooperating with other folks.

However, what I have noticed from both rookies and veterans of this game is that ego tends to screw things up for everyone. If a rookie has an ego, they're probably not going to be receptive to advice. If a veteran has an ego, they'll most likely talk down to a rookie and give them advice in a very condescending manner, which would do little else besides make the rookie feel like they're being insulted or even attacked by the veteran because of their lack of experience.

It's a slippery slope and I really hate folks who let their egos rule their actions and their words because words that come out of an egotistical mouth usually do more harm than good, but unfortunately, that can't really be controlled by anyone other than the person with the ego themselves.
