The glamour system is a bandaid over a shotgun wound. The game's clothing and armors simply suck.

Respectfully, I disagree. I think there are a lot of really good pieces of armor out there! Sure, there's a lot of generic designs at lower levels from vendors (But really, that just makes sense), but there are a bunch more out there that look really good! However, what I have found is most of the best-looking gear drops from specific dungeons. Sastasha,Tam-Tara Deepcroft, Copperbell Mines, Brayflox's Longstop, Dzemael Darkhold, Labyrinth of the Ancients, and all of the new dungeons since 2.1 have some really nice looking pieces of armor. Looking for a cool weapon? Stone Vigil seems to drop some of the classiest-looking weapons in the game, I think.
Also, with the 2.2 patch, crafters have gotten a lot of cool pieces to craft too, such as the dresses, the Sailor set, and others.
The game is still less then a year old, but I wager that, especially with Gold Saucer looming on the Horizon, we'll get a lot more interesting-looking sets as time goes on.

Personally I like a lot of the sets other people think are boring. They are realistic and based on actual things people would wear in battle. Starting at low levels you should have some very basic 'boring' looks and as you progress through the game and encounter more and more impressive designs you should be collecting pieces you like and using them to glamour over things you don't.
I would disagree with the whole 'have to be 50 to glamour' thing except that getting the first job to 50 is laughably easy.

I don't like the glamour system so much. Maybe it's because I've encountered a MUCH MUCH MUCH better system, in LOTRO.
There, you basically have a "layer" of equipment you put over your equipped gear, which is the gear that appears on your character. Then you don't need to bother when you upgrade your gear, you will always look like what's on your outfit layer.
Seems like the glamour system is based off the transmogrifying system from WoW, which was something I criticized a lot at the time. Why put the "skin" equipment on THE PARTICULAR PIECE OF GEAR, when you can put it in yourself? =\

RIFT had the best vanity system that I know of, and it was stupid simple. Put a piece of armor in a vanity tab and bam, different look. XIV's is...different, but it has it's pros as well as cons.I don't like the glamour system so much. Maybe it's because I've encountered a MUCH MUCH MUCH better system, in LOTRO.

I'd say the best vanity system is in DCUO. I absolutely loved that about DCUO; pretty much the only thing I loved about DCUO.

Admittedly, I may be mistaken but I'm almost positive EQ2 had that style of system in place before Rift.
That said, there's absolutely no sane reason to require a level 50 for access to the glamour system and I would personally love it if the class restrictions were removed from projecting followed by being able to dye all types of gear.

Yes, EQ2 had the exact same vanity system. They called it the Appearance Tab. It was originally available to you once you hit level 20, but they eventually made it available for brand new level 1 characters. Honestly, I wish that XIV's developers had gone with this system (Blizzard, too, in regards to WoW) but... server limitations and we get the Glamour System instead. C'est la vie. *sigh*
Also, I happen to like the appearance of some of the DoM gear on my male characters.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
