Seems likely, from 2.2 patch notes:

* The status of retainers dispatched to procure items is saved locally to your computer, PlayStation®3, or PlayStation®4, which may result in the display of incorrect information when changing systems. Summoning a retainer once via a summoning bell will update the status of their ventures on that system.

Could this be what happened?

Very likely ^^;; Thanks for the info.

So this would mean the "venture complete" on the first summon was actually the false message (meaning i had likely already collected the rewards on my other machine and forgot)? I wonder what would have happened if I did view the report on the first summon 0_0? double haul? More than likely venture complete was shown, but the actual option to view venture report never existed and was in my imagination ._. I'll be sure to check it out again and let you know.

I get this message all the time. I do the 18hr venture and in an hour or 2 it will say complete. then when I check the retainers, it gives me the real time they return.
