Oh, don't get me wrong. It does suck as a player, and like you said, you worked to get that Gil. However, as a whole SE has to keep things balanced as much as possible and they see that it is within their acceptable margins that 1.4mil won't have a huge impact on a server's economy. We as players tend to look only what immediately effects us. It's a thankless job to be working behind the scenes, they keep the economies from crashing but the player base doesn't directly see it.

Eh, honestly I won't fret about it too much. It's only a small loss, just pick up the allagan pieces and join your friends.

As others have already mentioned, there are round-about ways to still maintain your gil.

Personally, I would scout the market instead.
You can just create a new character on the server you wish to transfer to, then compare high value, high demand items to sell.
For starters you can look at materia, exclusive gardening seeds/mats, or exclusive myth tome crafting mats.

When I mean 'exclusive', I don't mean untradeable, but instead items that can only be obtained reliably by said means.
Such as Petrified Log is obtained by buying it with Myth tomes.
Glazenuts is obtained by gardening, and so on.

You can easily bypass the gil transfer limit by buying stuff that sells fast, like materia IV, myth mats, allagan coins, then selling it on the destination market. Which i think should not be allowed, by making every item in possesion character bound while transferring.

The purpose of server transfer is being able to play with friends, NOT earning money or monopolizing market.

It isn't a big deal. Forget about allagan pieces with that amount of gil. Scout both markets (i.e. make a throwaway on that server) and check the prices for high-priced things that actually sell like myth materials (Saurian Skins, Cashmere, Tawny Latex etc.). I would advise against investing in housing/pet materials like glazenuts because that stuff is in real flux now, though investing into reliably rare things like opo-opos/bluebird pets might be a thing :P

Then, once you transfer, sell it off hopefully for profit. Who cares about a gil limit?

Not sure why this limit is still intact, but considering your resources are still quite limited you might want to see if the Hyperion markets still have Allagan metal pieces in stock and invest in them before jumping.

A lot of other countries use periods instead of commas in numerical values.

But yeah, as Shirai said - start stocking up on Allagan pieces from the MB if you want to retain your gil. You could try to work the market and bring over some items to sell, but that's a bit riskier.

Make a character on the destination world and check out the markets and buy items to resell for profit after the move. We bought millions worth of materia before we moved and have 3 times more Gil then we started with post move xP

Of course you can choose to invest in other materials if you wish, but it does indeed bring a greater risk of loss, or major profit of course.

I mentioned the Allagan pieces purely because of their steady market value and minimal risk.

Doesn't it mean you're in luck? Buy cheap on Hyperion, sell for profit on Phoenix. Hopefully if not for profit at least you'll get back the tax.

If you do research and check materia/expensive item prices between servers you can actually make out like a bandit and turn your 2 mil into more while helping the economy of both servers.
Create more demand of high supply items in one server, add to the supply of a high demand items on another server. Win - Win.

And try not to think of it as a negative, this limit actually benefits us a lot more than you think.
