Hi, it's the mythology tomes the ones that are used for the books, so you don't need to save soldiery tomes. You will need 900 myth tomes to upgrade your Curtana and Holy Shield to Zenith if you haven't already done it. Edit: I see you talk about saving soldieries to buy the weapon. I would center on the gear first since the weapon needs a lot of soldiery tomes and then a drop of second coil to upgrade it's not likely you'll get soon.

I would go buying with soldiery tomes the gear items to substitute your pieces that have the lowest ilvl, looking also the stats so that you keep enough accuracy (for Coil). Soldiery accesories are quite good too and some can compensate the stats the left side soldiery pieces don't have. The myth accesories, except ring, are not that great.

Depending on how much you play, it will take time to farm the Atmas so you'll be getting 450 soldiery tomes per week, it's not difficult to cap the soldiery tomes. You can go upgrading gear with soldiery. At the same time you'll be obtaining mythology tomes. Daily roulettes and Crystal Tower give many myth tomes. I would upgrade the Curtana and Holy Shield to Zenith soon so you can start to farm Atmas.

While you farm atmas I would cap the soldiery tomes and also do the roulettes so you obtain mythology tomes, not just farm fates all your available time. Other people may think different and prefer to have the atmas ASAP. You can't hold more than 2000 tomes so you probably can spend your myth tomes in gear too, and when you think you are near to finish the atma you can start to save myth tomes so that you can buy your first book soon. I wouldn't worry too much, since the difference would only be obtaining the animus upgrade a few days before.

There are also the allagan drops from Coil that are ilvl90. If you think you'll obtain soon an allagan item, you might not buy the valor one and buy another valor item. Some drops are from T1 or T2, which are easier, others from T4 or T5 which are more difficult.

There are also the CT drops that are ilvl80, that can be useful temporarily until you get something better.

There are many options now that there is no weekly cap on Coil or CT (so allagan and CT gear are easier to obtain), and there are the soldiery tomes to buy gear and not only the myth tomes. Once you start with the books, you'll use all your myth tomes for the books and stop buying gear with them.

Edit: Keep in mind that eventually you might level your other tank job, so CT and Allagan gear will serve for the other class too. Also you may have a retainer and need gear for him that you will not be able to use at the same time. Retainers don't have jobs, only classes, so Valor is not an option for the retainer. It is likely you will also eventually level other classes/jobs to 50 and need the gear (this regarding drops, I wouldn't roll pass CT or Coil gear, or high level dungeons gear you don't have equivalent. You may level that job later. Unless you are fully sure you'll never level that job.)
