Communication Breakdown

Hi everyone!

I'm a pretty new player, had the game for a week or so and really enjoying it. I'm playing on PS3, and the hotbar system is just awesome for me. I'm a lot better with a controller in my hand than a keyboard and mouse.

I do, however, foresee a slight issue. The in-game chat functions playing with a controller are a bit too slow and clunky for me, quite often I can't get my thanks and congrats out at the end of an instance before everyone's gone! I like to be quite sociable, so when I do eventually join an FC I'd like to be able to make myself heard (or seen?)

Aaaaanyway I guess what I'm asking is if anyone can recommend a workaround that doesn't involve me switching to keyboard and mouse? I mean I don't mind using a keyboard if I can keep using the controller, and I don't mind investing a bit in peripherals if that's what it takes, I can see myself playing this for a long time!

A common pattern is to use the keyboard just for chat and the controller for everything else. You do need to keep the keyboard handy enough to switch back and forth that way, but it works pretty well.

if a big clunky fullsized keyboard isnt in your interest there are a few work arounds

-You can connect any keyboard that uses bluetooth or USB these include mini add on keyboards like cell phone or ipad keyboards
-You can make macros in a spare bar for things like thanks, hi, or a quick macro saying that you dont have a keyboard so wont be able to respond fast
-the PS3 should have a list of common words you use on the right with the most prevalent use ones on the top of it just type tha and thank should pop up if you use it enough for example

I personally use a $9 Bluetooth cellphone keyboard for my ps3/ps4 fits in one hand so its not cumbersome and can sit on my lap as I play and lets me quickly type messages.
