What do you guys think of people buying gil?

FFXI was my first MMO years and years ago. When I heard people bought gil with actual real money, I was shocked and could not understand it. Now that Im more of an MMO veteran, this no longer comes as a surprise.

I can already hear people say: "it does not affect your game, so stop crying!". While it does not directly affect my experience with FFXIV, it does bother me when people can do stuff which are against FFXIV's policy. There are a few other things why I think it's bothersome, but those are not relevant at this point.

I fully agree on the other hand when people say it's not the people buying gil being the problem. SE can, and has to do a better job to deal with this problem. I just do not believe they do everything they can. In fact, and here it comes, I believe they implicitly support it. Yes, there have been official posts by SE that RMT accounts have been banned. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that they made the bans public only after the whole world knew about their complete failure (at one point you could just type in a command "I want X amount of gil", and you had it).

We could turn this in a statement and discuss about it, but I just wanted to know what you guys think. I personally do not care too much when people do it, they'll (almost) never tell you so it's hard to point fingers (sometimes you just know though). What I do care much about is how SE deals with this, and for me it is no where near good enough.

Except that it DOES affect my game. if no one bought gil, server economies wouldn't suck. If no one bought gil, I wouldn't have to deal with spam tells harassing me.

it is amazing how lazy players are becoming and how they vehemently tries to justify their cheating ways. if something is done in a way which the game doesnt not intend, then you cheating and cheating the game is against the ToS.

RMT existed before FFXI. Micro transactions where a thing before they were a thing. Some people will pay real life money to get ahead in video games.

Yet as far as what I think of people buying gil. Well once you let an evil in it ain't going away and it's here to stay. Sadly rational people can't dictate the course of actions those people wanting sort term gains are desiring simply because they got the money to blow.

The good thing is, it means the game is doing well. The bad thing is, it's very annoying and I feel sorry for anyone who needs to purchase a virtual currency.

Agreed. I do feel that SE, as a company, has the responsibility to deal with it. So the sellers are wrong, the buyers are wrong <--- they will not change. SE can make the change.

They are idiots.
Nothing worth having, can be traded. What you can buy, is usually not worth a lot, except maybe as vanity items.
If you're lucky, your retainers can bring you almost anything.
And Gil is absurdly easy to get anyway. I made 2mil gil, or such, just from daily roulettes.

Agreed. I do feel that SE, as a company, has the responsibility to deal with it. So the sellers are wrong, the buyers are wrong <--- they will not change. SE can make the change.

It's a losing battle though. The bigger things they can do as a company will only restrict the players themselves, which would result in legitimate players leaving the game for something else.

I agree the situation is out of hand, but what would be the point of hurting the legitimate customers because of what the illegitimate customers are doing?

the real problem i have with people buying gil is that there supporting the rmt's, once someone buys gil from an rmt that rmt can hack your account so it makes more work for SE so it's bad for everyone
