I've always wondered why they just stuck him at the end of the hall. Should have been a door there, and when you interact with it he does his first knock back and moves from behind the door to in front of it.
This game is remarkable for that sort of thing.
Also, I do not know the extent of your experience with the first and second coils of Bahamut, so I will keep that in mind.
Some items, such as the Catoblepas (Halatali HM) from FFV and the Zu (Pharos Sirius) from FFIV, were easy to spot though still much appreciated.
Here are some things that took me a bit of time to catch:
The final boss of Haukke HM was originally a boss from Final Fantasy V.
ADS from Turn 2, which you have already pointed out, originates from Final Fantasy IV
The super-boss from Turn 5 was originally a boss from Final Fantasy V.
The boss from Turn 6 was originally a rare monster from Final Fantasy VI.
The boss from Turn 7 was originally a boss from Final Fantasy V.
The boss from Turn 8 *strongly* resembles an iconic boss from Final Fantasy V.
There are many, many more, but they are generally more obvious and not so note-worthy (such as the Ultima Weapon, Tonberry King, etc...)

"First of all, your beauty has captivated me! Second, I'm dying to know if I'm your type. I guess your abilities would be a distant third." - Edgar Roni Figaro, Final Fantasy VI
"You think a minor thing like the end of the world was going to do me in?" - Sabin Rene Figaro, Final Fantasy VI
"This is sickening! You sound like chapters from a self-help booklet!" - Kefka Palazzo, Final Fantasy VI
