I compensate the lack of movement 3 ways-
1) Zoom the camera WAAAY out to give me a large view of enemies on screen.
2) I got into the habit early on to use the right stick to move the camera's angle all the time.
3) I put in target filters, letting me tab through enemies faster.

You can target things that are ON SCREEN, but only attack them within a certain range. You may want to dig into the character config and be sure that your set to automatically face a target. That might help a bit, too.

I'm on PS3, as a White Mage and I had played Scholar, so I feel some of your pain. You just gotta realize that you can really put some distance between you and your targets, and make good use of cool downs like Surecast (making it impossible to interrupt a spell) and Quickcast (making ANY spell pop instantly), both of which are vital BLM skills. The distance factor is a balance between us mages and most DoW classes. BRD is the exception, having movement and good damage.

But BRDs are NOT meant to be total damage dealers, they have important utility in parties with their songs. So, a bard SHOULD be concentrating on damage, staying in motion, AND keeping their buffs up on allies. This is the difference between a good bard and a GREAT bard.

This is compared to Black Mage, who is supposed to position themselves in a safe(r) area in each battle and keep the damage coming onto the enemies and transposing at the proper times to keep their mana up. 100% damage dealer.

If aggro is the issue, stop attacking, run to your tank, let them get the aggro back, and return to a safe spot. It's painfully easy to outpace a tank if you are hammering your spells.
