A lot of those things are holdovers from early MMOs, or even from FFXI in particular. Hopefully someday we'll see some of those change, particularly movement while casting.

I understand not being able to cast and move at the same time, but really, why can I not turn? And even if they dont allow us to turn why the hell is my right side field of view so much larger than my left side?
I don't know how to do it on a controller, but if you right-click and drag you can pivot your character in-place. There should be an equivalent on the controller. Just make sure that when you are rotating, you are rotating your character, and not just your camera.
Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.
Just figured out if I go into first person mode and move my camera it'll move my whole character in place.
It's largely a balance thing, think about it, if they let BLM's "run and gun" and damage had no effect on casting, then with their nigh infinite MP pool they'd be unstoppable murder machines. To compensate they'd need to either severely nerf the actual damage of spells, mp regen, or up cast times... or all three to keep BLM from being OP.
Same with healers, they'd have to find another way to balance then, that in the end would be worse than having to stop an cast.

This doesnt make any sense as classes like archers have high damage and can move as well. Plus, whenever i fight things usually i'm not moving...so that would mean I'm an "unstopable killing machine" 99% of my game time. which would result in them nerfing the class anyway.
I wasnt suggesting making it so mages can run and gun. I was saying, archers can aim their bow in front of them and shoot behind them on the move but a BLM can't hit an enemy roughly 45 degrees to his left? Why not add a simple turn when casting, or even snap to the target.
I have no comment that it makes sense or not, but I think your comment on BRD as above was much more correct than your comments on BLM ^^;
TBH, I think casters in FF always works on the way you blame.
