Learning curve. That's your reason why. The dungeons, going from Sastasha to Darkhold are designed in a staggering way to make you familiar with your skills, mechanics (which reappear throughout the rest of the game if you haven't noticed), positioning, etc. It's all a learning curve to prepare people for the end game content, such as coil, primals, harder dungeons for tomes and such.

If you're not enjoying the game by level 30 FFXIV is not for you. I'm only level 32 and incredibly happy that I finally decided to get into the FFXIV world. When it comes to community you need to join a Free company and linkshell. There are guilds recruiting in every nation, give a shout out there and you'll see that one of them will pick you up. If you make it to end-game without a guild you will join one at end-game I'm sure.

Thank you to everyone who replied. Even those brutally honest people saying this game might not be for me. Im level 45 at the moment but today was the last day for my free trial. There are times when i enjoy this game but the problem is i compare it to FFXI just about every step of the way. I know they are different games but they are so similar that i cant help but compare them. Anyway that is a thread for another day.

I too love the final fantasy universe and have played a good majority of them, my wife will even ask me from time to time when the next FF is coming out so she can try and surprise me with it. The problem with this game, for me, is that i cant get immersed into the story because of the way it is delivered. There is absolutely nothing entertaining about watching my character listen to NPCs talk to him with no interaction or engaging cutscenes, though for the record i have only made it to the level 22 main story quests because i cant bring myself to continue it. I really dont know much of what the story is about because it hasnt grasped my attention yet. Endgame gear grinding has never really appealed to me and after they destroyed FFXI with this item level crap i quit (again). Sadly this game is the same way at end game.

Sorry if this seems like a hate thread. For all of you enjoying this game i am happy for you. I just wanted to know if the story is as intense and exciting as CoP, ToAU and WOTG were for me in FFXI, and if there were interesting end game activies with unique mechanics like salvage, dynamis (75 era), nyzul, etc. I think i will probably just play other games while i wait for this one to flesh out. It is still in its infancy and i read all about what FFXI was like before they raised the level cap above 50.

The story doesn't get intense, it just gets slightly less boring each step you make. Honestly, just wait a while and come back.
