Returning to the game, quick reviews please?

I would also second, third, fouth, etc. the suggestion to just wait until after the 1.18 update on Thursday. A LOT of things are going to be happening, such as the introduction of Auto-Attack, which will change your experience by a great deal.

As others said no one can answer this, because the current version of XIV is basically going away starting on thursday. So many changes and additions, including the whole battle system and even the focus of the game itself.

Any review anyone gives you now, would be 100% invalidated on Thursday.

This... and the fact the game's free. Everyone's too dependent on other people's opinion though... why not just play the game yourself and see if you like it? It's this exact reason I don't see FF14 recovering too well in NA, even if game does a complete 180, too many people hold grudges with MMO's that have bad launches in NA and even in UK. This includes gaming journalists as well, and most of those are too ignorant, lazy, or not analytical enough to give proper assessments.

Don't take this personally though... all I'm saying is don't be one of these many people, wait a couple days and then head into FF 14 yourself and see how the game suits YOU^^ Reviews and opinions be damned!

wait till after 1.20 is my recommendation if you ar able to wait it out. i recently re-started (i wanted to wait myself, but couldnt resist temptation and i had no other game to play) and the game is pretty much the same as i left it about one month after release. the only thing you´ll notice tat hav changed is new normal quests an icon, party bonus, faster leveling and perhaps a little bit less lag. lag is still very noticable an a killing faktor.

surplus is annoying as well. you will hit it in one-two days at around rank 19-20 if you do some behests and all your guild leves with many stars. you´ll get by to rank 24-25 but after tat it is so worthlessly slow xping you want to pain yourself.

Agreed, wait till 1.20. If the game will be worth playing that will be the point, if not than just gonna need to move on.

In many cases they haven't been paid enough by anyone. Freelance writing for gaming sites has got to be one of the worst jobs out there... even in this economy. No wonder people put no effort into it.
