Give Minions Game Relevant Abilities And Functions

Aside from looking cute, minions don't do anything at the moment. Here're some suggestions on making minions more relevant to the game.

Town Abilities
Summoning a minion grants the player benefits in town. The abilities need not be unique to each minion. Instead, have a few categories of abilities and have a variety of minions within that category.

Examples of abilities:
Pick-up
If a player wanders around town with a minion with this ability, there is chance the minion would pick up an item. Items could include gil, vanity items and maybe even materia.

Rush Hour
Extends the duration of a player's sprint.

Catalogue
Shows player all items sold by NPCs in the town. Players would still have to approach the NPC to buy the item.

Gold Saucer Playable Characters
Feature obtained minions as playable characters in Gold Saucer games. For example, obtaining the Shantotto minion also unlocks Shantotto as a jockey in Chocobo Racing, a fighter in 3D Battler, a Blitz Baller in Blitz Ball (yes, there'd better be Blitz Ball!) etc.

Housing Functions
Minions could help out around player housing. Dust Bunnies could take out the trash, Magic Brooms could clean, Wolf Pups could be house pets and perform tricks... It'll also be the perfect excuse to have an ADS minion - ADS housing security system anyone?



There's just so much that can be done with minions and I think it's wasted design space to just leave them as is as digital porcelain dolls.

I agree, minions are adorable and people often collect them especially since now they can interact with other minions. But it is a bummer that they don't serve a greater purpose. I do like the "Pick-Up" ability for the town. Some AIs in other games (like Bioshock Infinite) allowed the AI to pick up coins and ammo while wandering cities.

It would be interesting to see minions do something else other than just follow you around.
