I believe it was mentioned in the previous threads that there needs to be a system by the gms in place to prevent some of the shadier methods of gambling (i:e: telling a contender to throw the fight to get a cut of the gil)

this I understand fully.
perhaps then..

gil is used inside of the coliseum, at a vendor to purchase another form of currancy, that currancy can only be used to gamble with at the betting window, and winnings do not double currancy but perhaps reward you with items?
Or maybe it does reward you with more coliseum currancy, but the currancy can only be used to place bets, give to NPC for fame, etc.
that's a tough one to think about really. lol

Yep either have use gil to buy Coliseum specific currency, or allow PC Vs NPC battles to build Coliseum currency. This currency can never exchange hands via trade. And can only be used to buy items from the coliseum.
